Rating: Summary: Marcia Adams' cookbooks. Review: Anything written by Marcia Adams has to be exceptional. I love all her books and I love her tapes. I am so sorry she no longer has a television show--at least not in our area.
Rating: Summary: The very best rolls Review: Cooking from Quilt Country is one of my favorite cookbooks. The Overnight Butter Rolls are my family's absolute favorite rolls. This year was my fourth in a row to serve them for Thanksgiving dinner. They are always a hit. Several of my relatives eat so many rolls they don't want anything else. Other favorites: Homade Noodles, Amish Brown Sugar Pie and Apple Cake with Hot Carmel Sauce (incredible!!!). I like the fact that most of the recipes are made with things you already have on hand.
Rating: Summary: i love this cookbook Review: Even though I don't really eat the kind of food in Cooking From Quilt Country very often, it is a great cookbook to read with a very down-country, homey feel. The oven-fried chicken is delicious, although I might marinate the chicken before cooking b/c it doesn't taste very good cold! There are also many anecdotes about the Amish and old-fashioned recipes such as Brown Sugar Pie, Buttermilk Pie, Burnt Sugar Cake, Butterscotch Tapioca Pudding, BBQ Chicken, Onion Rivel Soup, Homemade Grape Nuts, and so much more. The pictures are fantastic and the stories about barn raisings, auctions, weddings, etc. and the dishes that accompany them are very interesting.
Rating: Summary: One of my all time favorite cookbooks Review: I bought this book about 8 years ago, and I use it all the time. My friends and family love the cucumber salad, the blueberry upside down cake, the celery seed dressing, which mixes up well with one of those hand held blenders. It's absolutely one of my favorite cookbooks!
Rating: Summary: Excellent book! Review: I get so tired of cook books that give you caramelized onions with brie. Or watercress and avocado sandwiches. This book is not that! It is food that doesn't come from a can, box or bag. And it's not 'froofy' food either. This could be called, the Amish guide to comfort, stick to your ribs cooking. Mashed potatoes, gravy, chicken, every kind of pie that your grandparents talked about but the recipes forgotten. And they have one in there that tells how to make Whipped cream and it won't separate once it's whipped! That alone is a recipe worth having. Okay... I'm done drooling. Next are the pictures, well the pictures should be first since they're the ones that grab your attention to read the book in the first place. They are wonderful and give such a view to a person who's never even been into Amish country. And the narrative the author gives about the lives of these people. Amazing. A great book, and everyone I've shown it too has been impressed. (more so when I tell them that's the book I got the recipes out of) Real food tastes so much better than from a box. And this is the book that give real recipes.
Rating: Summary: i love this cookbook Review: I have owned this book since it was first published and all I can say to you if you are considering buying this book" What are you waiting for?" A really good pie crust had always eluded me until I tried the one in this book. Easy to make and flaky beyond words!! I always let it "ripen" a day or two before using it that makes it even better. Tuna Sandwiches using cream cheese, wonderful! The Brown Sugar Pie and Apple Dumplings with Vanilla Sauce.. my mouth waters just thinking about them! Every recipe in this collection is outstanding. I take this book down every once in a while and just read it. Mrs. Adams offers and insight to a culture and way of life that seems strange to most. The food, and the narative will leave you begging for more. An American classic that will not disappoint you

Rating: Summary: Great Meals That Remind You of Dinner at Grandma's Review: I have owned this cook book for many years. My husband purchased it for me after he saw the PBS series "Cooking from Quilt Country". Marcia was making ribs and kraut that day and he got so hungry for it he ordered the book right away. I can truly say I have used more recipes from this book than almost any other cookbook I own (and I collect cookbooks!) It's a MUST HAVE if you love good old-fashioned food!
Rating: Summary: One of my favorite cookbooks Review: I just love all of Marcia Adams' cookbooks, especially this one. The recipe for Sausage Gravy to put over biscuits is spectacular. My husband says it is better than any he's had in restaurants. We also love the oven baked Amish Fried chicken--a real winner. People always ask for the recipe after they've tried it. There is also a great receipe for bran muffins that call for a whole box of raisin bran cereal. The uncooked batter lasts for a month in the refridgerator. Even if you don't like to cook, the photographs of the Amish and the narrative are wonderful. This book is a companion to her PBS Series.
