Summary: Dijon and Basil anyone?
Review: I didn't think this was a bad book. I just didn't think it was a GREAT cookbook. If you don't like dijon and fresh basil you won't like the majority of the recipes. Which is what I think turned me off on this. However, if you're looking for some new ideas then it has a lot of them. I enjoyed how many variations on sandwiches she had. I also enjoyed many of the desserts and the scone recipe. She has lots of muffin recipes but I'm not big on those either. It's worth a look but I didn't buy it.

Summary: Gotta love this book!
Review: I have seen Sara Foster on FoodTV many times and found her recipes to be very easy and delicious. I was excited to find the entire collection in this book. I even found a muffin recipe that I thought didn't exist!! This cookbook is a definite "must have" and would make a great gift.

Summary: A Beautiful and Delicious Book!
Review: I just bought the book this week and have made the Lemon Bars with Blueberries and the Coconut Macaroons. The recipes were easy to follow and the beautiful photographs show you what the end result should look like. Both were delicious! I have a few hundred cookbooks and this may be one of my favorites. It is beautifully photographed and the layout is great. I look forward to making many more recipes from this book. I think anyone should buy this book with confidence and enjoy every page and delicious bite.

Summary: Very appealing
Review: I just bought this book on Saturday, and all the recipes look wonderful. I wish, however, that there were more photographs... you can go ten pages without seeing a single picture. I wanted to write after I'd tried some recipes, but feel I must comment on the May 7th reviewer's negativity. First off, this book includes over 200 recipes. The reviewer was complaining that the book seemed like an advertising forum, looking to sell Ms. Foster's products (the 7 Pepper Jelly specifically). A total of TWO recipes (out of 200, I'll remind you) required the Jelly. Furthermore, Ms. Foster calls for any kind of pepper Jelly, not just her own. I hope that the reviewer did not send back the book without even trying it out. It seems to me like it'll be a great investment (and based on other reviews, I'm guessing I'm right).

Summary: Fabulous cookbook!
Review: I just received Sara Foster's cookbook for my birthday and I have already made several of the recipes and each one turned out fantastic! One thing I loved immediately about this cookbook is the number of recipes! You certainly get your bang for your buck with this book. There are such an array of recipes from appetizers to soups (lots of really good soup recipes), to vinigarettes, to dressings, to entrees and desserts, any cook cannot be disappointed with this book.

I read the review before me and I have to say that I just made the Roasted Pork Tenderloin with dried cherry sauce myself and I thought it tasted wonderful. I often have difficulty keeping pork moist when I cook it but I definitely didn't have that problem with this recipe!

I cannot wait to make some of the desserts as well. Everything looks so good and relatively easy to make!! A great cookbook for anyone!

Summary: An Excellent Casual Dining Cookbook. Yay!
Review: I recently received my copy of Foster's Market Cookbook and have already moved with lightening speed through a number of the recipes, and they are excellent! The recipes are not too complex, or fussy and at the same time each one is a great combination of fresh ingredients. The comfort food section of the book is alone worth the price. The Chicken Salad with a honey mustard mayonaise was a big hit, paired with a great orzo salad. My family is in love with the Risotto cakes. This is a great cook book for casual great-tasting food. It will be tough to find one cookbook with as many great recipes. Gotta go Cook!

Summary: Needs editing!!
Review: I tried the recipe for Roast Pork Tenderloin with Dried Cherries and Rosemary. Step One says to preheat the oven, Step Two to mix up a marinade, and Step Three to marinate the pork tenderloin for two to three hours or overnight. So is the oven supposed to preheat "for two to three hours or overnight"? What a stupid, stupid, STUPID mistake to include in a good-looking, pricey, upscale cookbook. There is no excuse for such carelessness and lack of attention to detail. (To add injury to insult, this expensive recipe wasn't even very good.) I will try a few other recipes in an effort to get my money's worth, but my initial favorable impression of the book has been damaged. Was somebody trying to save a few bucks by not hiring an editor? Hmmm?

Summary: I've wanted these recipes for 10 years!
Review: I've enjoyed shopping and eating at Foster's every time I visit Durham for the past 10 years. Sara's distinctive style and fresh approach to food has never disappointed. The scones are fabulous and I am so excited about the sandwich condiments and combinations. I've tried many times to duplicate the Foster's flavor at home and I'm thrilled to finally have the recipes so I can enjoy my favorites all the time! Bravo!

Summary: A dinner-party star
Review: I've never been to one of Sara Foster's restaurants, but if this cookbook is any evidence, they must be worthwhile.

The recipes in this book represent my idea of good southern American cooking---chicken pot pie with mashed-potato crust, black-eyed pea cakes, roasted veggies. Some are simple, others take a bit more time.

What I think is best about this book is how it puts new twists on relatively basic food..that potpie has herbed-mashed potatoes on it, the cakes get interesting ingredients.

Some of the dishes require Foster's Market basics-pesto, chive oil-that must be prepared in advance of the main recipe, but nicely enough..you get a page numer reference to lead you straight there. (As dumb as that sounds, I find SO many cookbooks don't do that....)

The only caveat: read the recipes carefully...some take longer to prepare than you'd think. And don't miss the risotto cakes..delish!
