Rating: Summary: A standard. Review: *The* cookbook everyone should have. To put it simply, it made me wanna cook. It sticks to the fundamentals, and explains everything clearly without being verbose. Very good recipes too.
Rating: Summary: This is the only cookbook you'll ever need! Review: Every recipe I make is better than the one before. Among our favorites are the Carrot Dill Soup, Bobbie's chicken, and the 'hot off the grill' Mint Lamb was incredible! If you need to pick out wine for a special dinner or find a side dish for a monday thru Friday meal, this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: A MUST-HAVE!! Review: I have already destroyed a soft cover copy of this book...it has been taped until it can no longer be put back together. This is why I am SO happy to find a hardcover copy. Thank you, Amazon.com!
Rating: Summary: This cookbook makes you look at cooking in a whole new light Review: I received this book as a bridal shower gift eight years ago, and I have used it faithfully ever since for everyday cooking and for special occasions. This book inspired me to branch out to new ingredients and to experiment with new ways for cooking old favorites, and the first Thanksgiving dinner I cooked by myself was inspired by these recipes (the recipe for stuffing, with hazelnuts and tawny port, is terrific). Easy to read, informative, and filled with useful cooking tips for novice and experienced cooks alike, this is an indispensable cookbook for any kitchen. My copy is falling apart, but I refuse to give it up.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic tool for cooks of all levels! Review: I would recommend this cookbook to those who are known for their culinary ability and for those new to the kitchen.
Rating: Summary: By far the best cookbook I own... Review: I am an avid cook--taking many classes and owning about 80 well used cookbooks on numerous subjects, but I have to say that this is the book I turn to when I am trying to find something good to make. My tastes match nicely to the author and I find that everything I make turns out nicely. If I could rate it above a 10 I would.
Rating: Summary: Good book, faulty paperback Review: If the quality of the paperback construction could equal the contents of the book, this would be a great addition to any food lovers collection. I don't know anyone who uses the paperback version who hasn't found it in tatters after minimal use. Could this be a fault, or a plan to get us all back to the hardcover?
Rating: Summary: Should be required in every kitchen Review: I own about 40 cookbooks, and this is one of my favorites. Most cookbooks only have a few good recipes, but this one has so many, so I use it almost all the time! The dishes are delicious and not too difficult, and they cover almost all the food you would think of making. Everyone should have a copy!
Rating: Summary: First cookbook I pick up. Review: I love to entertain and try to as much as possible . This is the first and typically only cookbook I look at. Not only for the excellent recipes, but for the menus, entertaining tips, wine choices, etc. They have never done me wrong and my guests have always been impressed.
Rating: Summary: Had to have it in hardcover! Review: My paperback copy of this cookbook is so well worn that it is falling apart, so I am replacing it with a hardcover version! The recipes are fresh and use many of the ingredients Mom didn't have available when I was growing up. Try the pineapple salsa over fish--just the right amount of zing! Or Florence Fabricant's grilled cumin shrimp: although listed as an appetizer, it's great as a main course
