Rating: Summary: Simply MAHHH-velous ! Review: As always, Ms Peters delivers! Her designs are unfailingly creative, witty and innovative (as evidenced by the frequency of other cake decorators ripping off her designs---anyone see Barbra Streisand's wedding cake? Compare it to Marie-Chantal Miller's cake -- the Flora Danica one) I also recently visited Jane Asher's shop in London & perused her sample book--more than a few cakes were reminiscent of Colette's! These birthday cakes are marvelous; the photos are great, the instructions easy to follow (I particularly found the instructions for the chess pieces well organized), and there are more than a few new techniques we'll probably be seeing everywhere soon. Even if you don't do cakes, this book (and her others) are great for examples. And...even if you don't make one of these cakes for a birthday, the book itself would be a swell gift!
Rating: Summary: Birthday Bonanza Review: Colette Peters has done it again. Her new birthday book is terrific. She has let her imagination loose and come up with an amazing assortment of fantasy cakes (my favorite is the groundhog cake). Her books are inspirational. I can't wait to try my hand at one of these creations. Hurry up with the next book.
Rating: Summary: Inspiration from the Best in Cakes Review: Colette Peters is a master of cake design and artistry. She shows us that baking can transcend the limits of the kitchen, and delve into the canvas and paints of the artist. It is no surprise to discover that Miss Peters is a trained artist. It is also not a surprise to discover that her work graces the tables of Bette Midler, the White House, and Tiffany's at Christmastime. This brightly-colored book is arranged topically: Signs of the Zodiac (12 designs), Flowers of the Month (4 designs), Birthstones (3 designs), and Assorted Party Cakes (14 designs). There are also two chapters devoted to Basic Recipes and Basic Instructions. Miss Peters has thoughtfully included a list of Sources for equipment and supplies at the back of the book. Each design includes: Number of Servings, List of Ingredients, paragraph-form instructions on how to assemble and decorate the cake, a full-color photograph, and patterns (most patterns require enlargements). While the instructions are specific, and basic instructions at the back of the book are extensive, I would not consider this a book for the beginning cake decorator. More advanced and intermediate cake decorators will enjoy creating their own cakes based on these ideas. This is a wonderful gift for the aspiring cake decorator.
Rating: Summary: colette is a creative genius Review: colette peters is not only a fabulous cake stylist but also the best and most imaginative artist in the field. She has an unlimited imagination and her book reflects this talent. Her instructions are detailed and do not leave out a bit of information...she is generous in her willingness to share all her secrets for creating her wonderful masterpieces!
Rating: Summary: Must have Review: I also have been honored to sit in class while the cake diva, Colette, works her magic. Her books have always been consistant with useful techniques, perfect presentation, clear instructions, good graphics, variety of styles, good book length, naming sources for the supplies used, etc. If you decorate cakes at any level, you need this book. Trust me, one day one of your customers is going to want a "Colette look-a-like cake" for their special party.
Rating: Summary: Not up to Par Review: I am a fan of Colette Peters but I was very disappointed in this book. The instructions are clear, but the cakes are very mundane. When I open a Colette Peters book I expect to have "my socks knocked off" with beauty and inspiration. I want to fantasize and dream. I want to make one of her cakes just because she inspired me. She has the talent but this book doesn't do her justice.
Rating: Summary: Delicious Beautiful Review: I am finding books by Colettes Peters to be excellent! They are colorful and whimsy and very different from othhers I have seen. I love to look at the pictures and imagine what wonderful occassion is made better even by presentation of a cake such as these ones. I am a beginner only but dream to make such beautiful cakes as I learn. These are special you bet!
Rating: Summary: Great book! Wonderfully easy directions., and tasty, too. Review: I bought this book in London. Photos show me how the cake should look when finished. Of course, these photos get my own imagination working for my own individuality to play along different designs. The separate drawings / letterings are a GREAT help. ...and let me say I had more than a few chuckles from the great wit used in the writing. WAY to GO! Colette!
