Rating: Summary: Planning On Building A Masterpiece . . . ? Review: Then this book is for you. The author is truly a master at her craft; the cakes pictured are architecturally striking and marvelously beautiful. The book is a large-scale glossy hardbound volume, which might lead one to believe it is filled with pictures of hundreds of different cakes Ms. Braun has baked/built/decorated/bejeweled. Instead, it is a painstaking, precise instruction manual on how to construct a relative few of these matterhorn confections. It's exciting to witness an accomplished chef so willing to share the detailed, step-by-step secrets of her craft. For someone without aspirations of building at least one epic wedding cake, however, this book may disappoint despite the generosity of its author.
Rating: Summary: yum Review: This book is orgasmic. As a cake book, it's great to see something that doesn't assume all grand cakes are for birthdays or weddings. There's so much to celebrate in the World. This is also a fantastic book for people into craft history, decoration, or design. The pictures of Braun's cakes, and the fragments and symbols which inspired them, make this book stand on its own as a visual feast.

Rating: Summary: Culinary Architecture That ANYONE Can Have Fun With!! Review: This is a beautiful book!!! It's gorgeous photographs make it a well-purchased book anyhow, but the BEST part is that even weekend bakers with limited ability (like myself) will feel an urge to actually go out and TRY some of this stuff (The Buttercream Recipe Is WONDERFUL!!) Don't be suprised if after reading this book your kitchen is filled with new pastry bags and cake pans. Enjoy the beautiful photographs, then try the recipes out and see how much fun you have!! HIGHLY recommended!!
Rating: Summary: A bit high falutin! Review: This is a beautiful book, but i wish there had been more cakes and less talk. Many of the cakes were from past magazines, so I would have liked to have seen more new things. The few instructions there were were not too helpful, to say the least.
Rating: Summary: A New Way of Seeing... Review: This is a great book for serious decorators who are ready for a new approach to looking at cakes. I was more inspired to try new things after reading this book than I've been in a very long time. Most of the cakes are not very practical, but the insight into Margaret Braun's thought process challenged me to think of myself as a cake artist rather than a creative decorator. If you need new inspiration and want to change things in your cake world--get ready for a really cool adventure after you buy this book!
Rating: Summary: love it Review: this is a wonderful book! it's like reading a fairy tale, with recipes.
Rating: Summary: what a beauty Review: This is one of the most beautiful books on cake decorating and the culinary arts I have ever seen. I was very impressed with the design. It is very inspirational. Although I am not a seasoned cake decorator, I am going to try my hand at some of these creations. Even if my rendition doesn't come out as beautiful as the author's, I am excited about trying. I feel the tips and guidelines are very helpful and have given me a good insight on how to develop techniques in cake decorating. I think anyone who is interested in decorative arts, culinary arts or cakes would love this book.
Rating: Summary: Unlike any other Review: What a fantastic book! For those who have never had the privilege to see one of Braun's cakes, the exquisite photographs give you a glimpse of her sugar genius. The text is congenial, informative, and often very funny, and you'll learn not only about cake decorating, but about art, history, travel and one artist's process. How generous of Margaret Braun to share her whimisical vision with readers.
