Rating: Summary: Bogus pseudo science not based on facts Review: Are you ready to make some soups like you have never tasted before? Do you want to make healthy fillings and dips for your vegetable trays and sandwich spreads? Are you tired of the same old vegan diet of beans and rice and plain vegetables? Well, then you've found the right book! This cookbook is an amazing resource for anyone that wants to improve their diet to include more vegetables and alkalizing foods. You will find ways to include vegetables in juices, soups, salads, dips, dressings and entrees. And yes, it even tastes good, very good! If you think you don't like vegetables, perhaps you have never tasted Roasted Pepper Macadamia Sauce, or Tofu Italian Mock Meatballs, or Shelley's Super Wraps. The cookbook is worth its price alone in those three recipes, though there are many more fabulous ones included. Whether you are vegetarian, vegan, or simply trying to include more vegetables in your diet, this is an excellent aid. You won't find a single recipe using animal products, sugar, yeast, vinegar, or other foods believed to be harmful to your health. However, to describe this as a cookbook is simply not enough. Shelley Redford Young also includes her philosophy (backed by her husband's research) for healthy eating, charts documenting the composition of various foods, a useful sprouting guide and handy recipe substitions. If this book only had an index for finding recipes by ingredients and a table of contents for exact recipe titles it would be perfect. Oh well, read it, dog ear your favorite pages, and enjoy!

Rating: Summary: great cook book Review: Back to the House of Health is a wonderful cook book, especially for people who are looking for health alternatives for eating. I already understood an "Alkalarian" diet, but I was struggling with finding very many options in preparing alkalizing meals and snacks. The recipes and suggestions found in this book have helped me eat more like an Alkalarian. The best thing about the book is that the food taste great.

Rating: Summary: Good but frustrating Review: I found this cookbook difficult to interpret. I am not someone who can cook without specific instructions, and this cookbook does not provide them. The pictures are good; the meals are good, but none of that matters if you can't figure out from the instructions how to make it. It seemed like Shelley Young skipped a lot of the recipe instructions and assumed people would understand.

Rating: Summary: Bogus pseudo science not based on facts Review: This book has good recipes but the science referred to in it is bogus and is only a roose to get you to buy into their multi level marketing of Innerlight products. The authors of this book own Innerlight which is a multi level marketing company that sells dried vegetables and alkalizing vitamins. Tony Robbins changed his Living Health Program to include theories based on "Doctor" Youngs "findings". Prior to that, Robbins subscribed to the Living Health program by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond. While the basic dietary guidelines are the same, Young's program promotes his vitamin supplements and Diamonds book concentrates on food. All bibliography information in this book is from sources like Newsweek and outdated 19th century scientists. Youngs suggestion that cells morph into yeast is completely bogus and based on no scientific proof whatsoever. If you are into pill popping and drinking green sludge to alkalize your body, you will enjoy this book and Innerlight products.
