Summary: Relive your childhood!
Review: This book is like a time-machine for your tastebuds. All the desserts I've made so far are terrific throw-backs to the days when butter, sugar and cream were essential food groups. The recipes are a HUGE hit with my daughter and all of her friends --most of them astonished at the thought of a homemade treat. Instructions are easy to follow, reliable and yield consistent results. I must say that at this point in my life, most of the recipes are a bit sweet and gooey for my palate, but they're incredible hits with everyone else.

Summary: Absolutely Old-Fashioned and Delicious!
Review: This book is not for folks who look for recipes for biscotti, tiramisu, passion fruit sorbet, and the likes...the Magnolia Bakery desserts are simply old-fashioned, homey, and very much like the way American grandmothers used to bake. Nothing is new except maybe for a couple of cheesecakes...but still with this book, you are now able to bake lots of great American classics from scratch.. instead of buying cakes, pies, cookies, etc. at the supermarkets which use gallons of chemicals, preservatives, etc. From this book, I've made Apple Crumb Pie (very easy to make, delicious, simple), Blueberry Muffins (just like my grandma's), Molasses Cookies (great on their own without the icing which I didnt make), and Coconut Cake (absolutely to live for!). I'm hoping the authors are working on a second book and if they do, I'm begging them to include other Ameerican classics, such as Red Velvet Cake, Banana Pudding, Applesauce Cake, and Pumpkin Bread.

Summary: Classic in many ways
Review: This cookbook is excellent if you're looking to make some classic, old-fashioned desserts, and caters to a variety of sweet-teeth.
Unfortunately, there is no nutritional information in the book, which was the primary drawback for me. While it is easy to conclude the many of the recipe's are high on sugar and fat, it would be nice to have a clear idea of exactly what I'm serving to my guests.
My other criticism is in the binding of the book - it's bound more like a novel, and won't lay flat unless you weigh it down. This makes it difficult when you're making an unfamiliar dish, and need to consult the book often.
Overall, this book is good for more advanced bakers with a taste for sweet, old-style desserts. The lack of nutritional information is a problem, but these dishes are probably best classified as infrequent treats rather than regular after-dinner rotations.

Summary: Classic Recipies
Review: This is by far one of the best baked good cookbooks I've used. The recipies are simple, straightforward and classic...something that is missing in a lot of books out there.

Every recipie that I've tried, blueberry muffins, corn bread, chocolate chip cookies, lemon pie have all turned out well. I look forward to trying a recipie from this book ever time!

I'd like to say it's like mom makes, but now she makes cookies that are sliced up from the fridge. So it's like mom is SUPPOSED to make in an ideal world!

Summary: An excellent recipe collection!
Review: This is one of the best cook books I have ever used, and I've seen my fair share. I've made almost all of the layer cakes (the coconut layer, humingbird and apple walnut are personal favorites) as well as at least two recipies from every other section and I've not run across one dissapointment. The recipies themselves are easy to follow and do not require any exotic or hard-to-find ingredients. I would definitely reccomend this book to anyone who likes to bake tasty and often gorgeous desserts.

Summary: a gift that keeps giving
Review: this review is actually from my wife! I am a big fan of the delicious cupcakes and other goodies at the Magnolia Bakery and was pleased to find out that they opened a similar store near my work (Bttercup Bakery) Unfortunately we moved uptown and it was very difficult for me to have my cupcakes on the weekends. Then I happen to find this book and immedialy purchased it hoping to recreate some of the magic from the bakery but lo and behold I am a terrible cook - so I did the next best thing and gave this book as a holiday present to my wife and earmarked the pages where I wanted her to concentrate on. The book must be geat because the output of my wife's work was just as good as the real thing and now I am happy on the weekdends. It is the first gift that I have given that I can reap the rewards over and over again! My wife enjoys using the recipes and I enjoy eating the results..............The only problem for the authors is that I do not visit the bakeries as much as we can replicate my favorites at home

Summary: Easy to understand
Review: Thoguh others might not feel this way, this book is easy to understand and to follow through. I felt taht the end result was just and they are in the actual bakery. I feel this is a good book for anyone starting out in baking or a more advanced baker.

Summary: Simply to die for
Review: Though I've only made the Traditional Vanilla Birthday Cake with the Traditional Vanilla Buttercream in cupcake version twice, I still love this book. I've never tried the cupcakes from the bakery, but a friend who has said they taste exactly the same. To be honest, I wasn't impressed with the cupcakes at first, but the more I ate them, the more I craved them. Now I'm addicted to them! I can't wait to try out more recipes from this book. I just wish they had more pictures... (I'm a sucker for yummy pictures.) But overall, I love this book.

Summary: Also disappointed
Review: To be fair I have only tried one recipe - the Chocolate brownies with Cream cheese frosting and they were in a word horrible - I have never had such dry brownies before - I ended up pitching the batch - what a waste of good ingredients! Maybe I will try another but then again maybe i will just stick with the tried and true Rosies Bakery cookbook.
