Rating: Summary: More suitable for sweet potato queens than me. Review: Buy with care. Not a bad book, I suppose, but if you buy it and then find it's not really for you, who are you going to give it to? Suffice to say, my wife's English is not good enough to understand the humour of the title, but not poor enough to do anything other than take my gift as an insult.
Rating: Summary: This Tammy Donna Loved IT! Review: Finally! A book of financial advice that I can understand and live by. As a southernjewel, born with a queenly crown upon my pretty auburn haired head, I swear the majority of recipes in this book I had growin up. And if I didn't? Then I will be serving them upon the next gathering I have. The wit and wisdom of my proud southern heritage shows through in her writing. The female friendships she holds so dear are the same as those that I hold close to me. AND the love she feels for BoPeep as I do for my brood of three, along with the journey of nursing 24/7 is the same as this southern woman. A treasure trove of quotes that I would love to claim as mine, but will gladly share as give her the due she has coming!I enjoyed this as much as the first one, more than her second book and will clearly buy a fourth when it comes out! Take care and enjoy this book! Donna ...
Rating: Summary: Delicious! Review: How can you not love a book that offers financial advice like, "There's a lot to be said for rich old guys with bad hearts and no relatives"? Great recipes and even better anecdotes! Only for those with a sense of humor, though. Other deliciously funny books: "No One's Even Bleeding" & "Delano"
Rating: Summary: B ig-assed FUNNY!! Review: I first rented the audio version of this book....after listening to it, I had to go out and buy it for my own self! Not only was it funny, it had some kick-ass recipes that I just had to try. After I bought it, I had to buy books for my friends. This is without a doubt, one of the neatest books I've ever had. It is now tattered...cause I really do use it as a cookbook!!! And can read it...like...forever./ Great read...and good recipes!
Rating: Summary: Laughed until I cried Review: I had heard these books were funny - this was the first one I had read - I picked it up in an airport after an overnight delay. I laughed until I was crying - my kids moved to another row in the plane because they were so embarassed. The scary thing about this book is that I have some southern girl friends who could have collaborated and written this. It is too true! I love the Sweet Potato Queens!
Rating: Summary: Eat and laugh until you cry!!!!!!! Review: I have actually read all 3 SPQ books, this one happens to be my fave (dare I say). If you are from the South, have visited or have family/friends - who happen to be female - any woman/girl/ lady/southern belle will laugh like you've never laughed before. All women can relate something in their lives to this witty, hilarious, and FAB-U-LOUS book(s). You drool just reading the recipies alone!
Rating: Summary: Entertaining and hunger causing... Review: I have been a big fan of the Sweet Potato series since the first book was released. I was anxiously awaiting the 3rd in the series and I was not disappointed. My husband has caught me laughing out loud on several occasions. Rather than simple anecdotes, HRH Jill gives specific lessons on aging and life events and the necessary food to go with each. Just as funny as the first two, it's nice to see that Jill can put a slight twist on her original formula and still come up with a home run. The worst part is having to wait for the next book!
Rating: Summary: Let's Hear It For Smart-Ass Women! Review: I love this book! I love all of Jill's books! I love Jill! She has done what so many of us wish we could do - turn her smart-ass attitude into a career. But what she has really done, in this and in all of her books, is to let us know that we are not alone. Jill brings us all together, and reminds us that a mis-spent youth is not enough. You need a mis-spent middle age and even old age if you're going to have any fun in the retirement home. You will laugh, you will cry, and I promise there is nothing this world can bring that Pig Candy can't make at least a teensy bit more bearable.
Rating: Summary: Great Read Review: I loved this book for several reasons: 1. It made me LOL. 2. It's very well-written. 3. Bizarre, mouth-watering recipes which are completely appropriate in the context of this book. 4. Jill Conner Browne has great insight into people. And she's totally honest. BUY THIS BOOK!
