Summary: Not for those who already have a good number of cookbooks.
Review: I have a good number of cookbooks already. At this time I look for those that offer something different and new. As I went through this book I found only a couple of recipes that fit the bill. If you are just starting out acquiring a cookbook or two, this one is not bad. Overall, though, I would prefer cookbooks from the The New York Times over this one.

Summary: AT LAST
Review: I have been hoping for years for a cookbook that would include all the "101" recipes which are all excellent! This is a wonderful book and I had to give it five stars in spite of my one complaint: The print is soooooo small! I would gladly have paid more for a larger book with larger print.

Summary: Mixed Results from Recipes
Review: I have had mixed results from this cookbook.

For desserts: The white cake is a disaster-much to dry. The apple pie is okay. The chocolate desserts come out better.

For entrees: The cookbook has greater success when the recipes are basic. The risotto is wonderful, very creamy and cheesy. The meatballs came out okay.

I wouldn't recommend purchasing this cookbook for a novice cook. There are often difficult-to-find ingredients or unusual preparations.

Summary: This is a nice collection.
Review: I have to disagree with another reviewer here. Every recipe I have tried by M. Stewart and her staff has always turned out well. This book is a nice collection of the recipes from the TV series. I made her mom's meatloaf, it was easy and my family thought it was very good. For Martha skeptics, check this book out of the library first, as I did, then purchase it once you find out what a good cookbook it is!
