Summary: Hurrah for Reprint of Great Classic!
Review: It's absolutely great that this wonderful cookbook has been reprinted. I learned to cook forty years ago from its hallowed (and soon filthily stained) pages. It still has the BEST bread recipes I've ever found (not to mention excellent step-by-step illustrated instructions), and the cake recipes are beyond wonderful. I'm getting two copies -- one for me and one for my 81-year-old mother, who recently gave away her copy by mistake. Thank You Betty Crocker!

Summary: The only one I'll give as a gift!
Review: My mom received the 1961 version as a wedding present, and it was the one I grew up using. When I went to college, she and searched many antique shops until we found one just like hers. This started my quest to find even older versions, and I now have an original 1950 Betty Crocker Cookbook. Now that I have found the reproduction of the original, it is the only one I will give as a gift. Today's cookbooks don't teach you all of the steps and terms for cooking, handling and cutting meet, etc.... This is a "must have" starting place for anyone who is serious about learning how to cook.

Summary: Betty Crocker's Picture Cook Book, 1950 edition
Review: The best cook book ever.... Brings back memories of Mom and my childhood, Lady Baltimore cake and Snickerdoodles.

Summary: I am faithful to this Cookbook
Review: I simply love this book; I have been using/sharing this book with my mother since I was 9 years old,the book belonged to my mother, since her death in 1982 I have taken possesion of it and I keep it in plastic. You see, I have the original hardcover(no annoying rings)that my mother received as a birthday present in June of 1956, so it's missing some pages and the back binding is missing. No one else is allowed near it. I have other cookbooks, but I always end up using my mother's old book. If I don't use it I feel like I'm cheating on mom.

Summary: If you want to really cook.............
Review: This is it, the cook book to have even if it is the only one you have. The tried and true, the dishes Mom and Grandma made. As a bride back in 1959, this was given to me as a wedding gift. This is where I learned to make pie crust and pies and have never had a reason to change the recipes, as the kids all want Mom to make the holiday pies every year. All the dishes are practical, no exotic ingredients, simple, plain, mostly American dishes that won't go wrong and everyone will like. I wouldn't be without it! Try one of the cheesecake recipes in the dessert section! The apple crisp, the turkey stuffing, they are all there and delicious.

Summary: You too can cook like Mom!
Review: This is the same cookbook my mom used! I now have her original one, torn pages, stains, and all! I'd never give that one up, but I did get myself a new one. And was so surprised! Everything is just the way it was in the old one! If you want to treat your family to real food, this is the place to find it! A real gift idea! I'm so glad it is back!

Summary: Better cookies can't be found...
Review: I'm still waiting to get my copy of this cookbook, but I just have to tell anyone who reads this review...I grew up with the Cookie recipes in this cookbook (it was a separate cookie cookbook that my Mom had). You won't find better cookie recipes anywhere. All the cookies which are classics in my family...Russian Teacakes, Scotch Shortbread, Finska Kakor, Date Bars, Butterscotch Brownies, etc.

I don't have my cookbook yet, but I want it in part for the recipes, in part for the nostalgia value.

Summary: Best Cookbook Ever!
Review: When I was young I thought this cookbook was the only one which existed. This was the only cookbook my mother ever used. So much in fact that now many pages are missing or just stuffed in the back because they came away from the binding. I have been trying to find a replacement for this cookbook for years for my own kitchen. I called Betty Crocker up years back to see if they could tell me where to get a copy and they told me to look in garage sales or used book store. Finally my mother-in-law who lives in Nebraska found a used copy in pristine condition for me at a book sale. Although I own dozens of cookbooks this is the one I come back to for the true basics of good cooking. I have owned four restaurants and have used this cookbook many a times to reference the basics. It is the greatest thing that Betty Crocker has ever done by bringing this cookbood back to print. I have ordered one as a backup for mine and one for my sister. Everyone should have one in their kitchen!

Summary: absolutely the best!
Review: I can't really say this is a review. I got this book from my mom, who passed away in 1960. I have used the book so often that it is falling apart. I will never part from the book I got from my Mom, but, since I want to keep it as a keepsake, I decided that I need a new one, because it is the most reliable book I have ever used. I intend to use it as often as I used my Mom's original book. My only regret is that I waited so long to buy a new copy. PS., I just love this book!

Summary: Enchanting! Memories of Mom in the kitchen flooded my mind.
Review: I grew up watching my wonderful mother use an original copy of this cookbook. She received it as a wedding present. She still has the original....which will someday be passed on to me. The pages still bear traces of all those wonderful baking experiences I shared with mom...chocolate, butter, flour. The original got so much use, that between her learning to become the great Betty Crocker cook she became and her teaching me all she had learned, some of the pages managed to come away from the binding. I remember mentioning to mom how nice it would be if her book was in a binder. Someone must have read my mind because here it is.....the reproduction, in all it's original splendor....bound! Thanks for a wonderful, loving cookbook. Besides my copy, I have since purchase one for each of my three sisters, and one for mom as well.
