Summary: Depends on how a 21 year old likes it!
Review: I bought this as a gift for my 21 year old daughter. Upon reading, I realized the nostalgia of the illustrations and recipes were more for MY benefit than hers!
I'm not sure she'll be readily open to the information within these pages as she would if it were a bit more on the modern side. Maybe I'll just keep this one for myself instead!
However, this cookbook could also be considered as a bit of American history and therefore a valuable gift to hand down to the next generation!

Summary: tattered after 48 years of use
Review: I was really excited to see that this book was being reprinted. I have used mine for the 40plus years of my marrieage and it is tattered and falling apart but I still love it. The quick mix cakes are still great and earn raves today. Am getting six copies for my six adult children and their families.

Summary: I've waited a long time for this.
Review: My mother gave me her copy of this fabulous cookbook several years ago. It was falling apart and patterned with years of cooking grime. It was one of the best gifts she ever gave me. At long last I can start afresh! All my favorite recipes (the pies have made me famous among my peers) are here again without the tears and stains. The recipes may seem basic, but I guarantee that they are all delicious, easy to follow and reliable. I won't throw away the old copy, but it can now go safely into retirement.

Summary: Not Just For Beginners
Review: I was given this cookbook as a shower gift 48 years ago. In spite of having 50+ cookbooks, including two newer B.C. editions, I still use this one very frequently. The chocolate cake page 133 is spattered with batter and the book opens almost by itself at the pie crust page 299. It has been used so much that I had to have it rebound at least 25 years ago. It is 21st century appropriate for the cook in a hurry and for entertaining with all the great hints on appetizers and the "How to Prepare" section. This one being looseleaf is even better than my original as it is a bound book. I'm ordering a new one for myself and two for shower gifts. I will write my personal thoughts on specific recipes and sections into the ones I'm giving for gifts. If you have only one cookbook your entire life, this is the one to have.

Summary: Big Disappointment!
Review: After the much-bally-hoo about this book, I bought it......big waste of money......It's ok if you want basic recipes, such as a basic chocolate cake, and such......does not live up to the hype, in my opinion......Guess people think "Betty Crocker" translates to "Bible".....

Summary: Betty Crocker's New Picture Cookbook
Review: Actually, I am looking for the 1961 printing of this cookbook. It was my first cookbook. Even though I now have 150+ cookbooks, I still refer to this book very frequently. There are some recipes that I can't better anywhere in my large cookbook collection. My copy has seen better days. It is taped together and losing pages. I would like to find a copy that has not had such a hard life.

Summary: Best Cook Book
Review: I have my mom's original 1st edition Betty Crocker Picture Cookbook. She learned to cook with it and passed it on to me. Its getting a tattered but the recipes are still the best. It has the best recipe for Molasses Crinkle Cookies. I've never found one better. I can't wait to get my new book so I can stash my mom's for my daughter. The only difference is Mom's is a hard bound addition and this is a 3 ring.

Summary: Betty Crocker Picture Cookbook
Review: I have used this cookbook for over 32 years and it is the best cookbook I have ever used. Each recipe is easy to follow, even with the fanciest recipes. My book doesn't look much like a book anymore. The pages are no longer attached by the rings, and it is mostly hanging by a thread. The front and back covers are completely off (even though I have taped and re-taped many many times), but I love every recipe I have ever tried and re-use them over and over again. I would highly recommend it to anyone, from begineer to the most seasoned cook.

Summary: I want a cookbook just the dear old Mom's
Review: Yep, my Mom still has the original addition. Oh, its a bit tattered and torn, but the recipes are still some of the best I've found no matter how many cookbooks I go through looking for recipes. Like the recipe for Pioneer Macaroni and Cheese. We had that just last week. Or the recipe for Brownies; I make that every year for our church's Christmas Bazar. Gosh, this sure is beginning to sound corny. But all of it is true. Honest.

Summary: A Must Have for Anyone Who Cooks
Review: My mother has the original of this book and I was so happy to see that it is still in publication. I remember as a child learning how to properly set a table from this book. My mother still uses it to this day, even though some of the pages and the cover are loose. Definitely a must have for any cook, beginner to advanced. For those who want simple, no fail recipes, this is the book for you!
