Summary: Not for the normal wedding
Review: This book is not the one you want to buy if your looking for wedding cake ideas. The cakes in this book are unrealistic, theres even a recipe for a cake made out of fish ---ewww--- If your just learning how to make cakes and want something for fun then this book is for you but please dont waste your time trying to get nice elegant wedding cakes out of it.

Summary: The Greatest
Review: This book was not only beautiful, but informative. I was having an informal weddding and all the books I saw were featuring overdone multi-tiered, fountain cakes. This book provides not only cakes with simple elegance, but the receipes too! I can hardly wait to try a few out. It was great!

Summary: The One Book To Have!
Review: This is it! If you could choose only one book on wedding cakes, you would want one that covers the art from beginning to end---and this one does just that. I particularly like this book in comparison to the others because the emphasis is on taste, as well as looks. The cakes are not your typical piped & overpiped powdered sugar towers most of us have come to know as the typical wedding cake. Most of the cakes can be made by someone who has a pinch of ability and can follow directions. But you do not need decorating experience (I proved that last August when I made a friend's wedding cake). The recipes may not all be conventional (very few aren't), but there is something here for everyone. I admit, even I had a little trouble when my friend picked out the Buttermilk Spice Cake recipe from the book to mix with two tiers of a Kahlua fudge recipe--and DeDe's Kahlua buttercream for all three tiers--but my little test cakes turned out to be downright delicious. And the wedding cake was an absolute success! Even the caterers took pieces and raved about them! Wonderful book! Thanks DeDe!!

Summary: An Amateur's Choice
Review: Unlike some of the other cake decorating books that I have seen, Dede's "Wedding Cake Book" really breaks it down for the amateurs. It has been wonderfully put together from cover to cover. The presentations of extraodinary cakes and enticing recipes of which I have tried, have all turned out magnificent.

She has presented a vast variety of recipes. Each comes with various scaling sizes which reduces the time of having to figuring it out yourself. Step by step procedure from mixing to decorating to assembling and transporting are all made clear.

Amatuers like myself will delight in having this one not only in their collection but also by their side.

Summary: Worth owning ... but
Review: While I'm honestly happy to have this book in my collection, I cannot say it represents the epitome of the art of cake decorating. While Ms. Wilson most assuredly knows what's she's doing, her choices for art director and photographer have let her down, badly.

Several photos border on the kitchy and the photography is not of the calibre it ought to be. Pity, because the end result is that book appears to be both amateurish and dated when probably in fact her work is neither.

See through these flaws and, again, this is a book worth owning, but for pure visual inspiration, there are far better books out there.
