Rating: Summary: This book really helpe me decide on a wedding cake style! Review: The daunting task of choosing a wedding cake style became even more overwhelming when I decided to make my own wedding cake. Luckily I found Dede Wilson's inspiring book, which helped immensly! I actually ended up making two cakes for the reception. As the centerpiece of our appetizer buffet, we served the delicious Savory Smoked Salmon Cheesecake with Dill Toasts. For dessert, everyone indulged in White Chocolate Satin Apricot Cake. The wedding is over, but I plan to utilize the scrumptious recipes in this book for many years to come!
Rating: Summary: Great Philosopy on Cakes Review: The first thing I noticed about this book was the beautiful photography (which always helps in making a recipe look appetizing) but the next thing was Ms Wilson's great philosophy on wedding cakes - that they should be beeautiful, but also taste great! Not only are there excellent recipes, but helpful information on how many people you can feed with what size cake and how much batter, icing, etc. you will need for any size layer. This is a book for the amateur as well as the professional.
Rating: Summary: Not a great choice for a new cake maker Review: The idea behind the book was great, and she does give you some very good tips if you want to read the whole thing. I tried it, and the cake came out dry and it was very hard to frost. I think that she should have helped more with the frosting tips... also the frosting recipies are very sweet and very rich in fat. There are better recipies out there that might taste better. I would only recomend this book to someone who has practice in making large cakes... it would be a great buy for a cake maker, there are some great ideas and recicies in the book, but be carefull if you do buy it and read it first.
Rating: Summary: Inspiring photos and recipes! Review: The Wedding Cake Book by Dede Wilson contains gorgeous photos of the most beautiful, imaginative, and artistic wedding cakes I have ever laid eyes on. As Dede mentions, the recipes can be used for other special occasions, too. The Croquembouche makes a show-stopping (and absolutely delicious) Christmas decoration/dessert. You'll find nothing run-of-the-mill here, just elegant and inspiring ideas for very special cakes (and some really "out there" ideas for those seeking something truly unusual).
Rating: Summary: If you're tired of the ordinary Review: This book has some wonderful recipes. If you want something other than white, yellow or chocolate for your wedding cake, try one of these. Your guests will be so impressed. Also the decorations are non-traditional but beautiful. I was particularly pleased to see that the recipes are given for different diameters of cake pans. I can try out a recipe in a 6" pan to see if I like it or not without baking a full size cake. I can sample the recipe without the fear of baking a large cake which would go to waste if I didn't like it.

Rating: Summary: Good Reference Book For Recipes Review: This book is a good reference book for cake recipes. I have not yet attempted to make any cakes as some ingredients are hard to come by or never heard of before eg cake flour, chantilly cream. All the cakes look delicious though but most are royal iced or butter cream iced cakes, not many sugar paste or fondant iced cakes. This book has basic and few instructions on piping and making sugar flowers as most of the cakes in her book are decorated with just cream, berries or fresh flowers. If you are a cake decorator and are tired of making fruit cake, mud cake or madeira and wish to increase your recipe library, this book is perfect for you as long as you know where to get the ingredients.
Rating: Summary: a must have Review: This book is a must have for anyone interested in baking cakes for weddings or any occasion! I am not a "professional" baker but I am a self-taught baker and many people order cakes, cookies, etc from me for weddings and special occasions. I found this book to be very detailed and easy to understand for anyone at any level of baking knowledge. Dede Wilson's explanations, tips and resource section are exceptional and not to mention the fabulous recipes. I particularly like how she has divided the recipes into cake sizes so that they are easily adaptable especially if you want to use the recipe for a simple party rather than a wedding. She also provides tidbits of knowledge on some flavors or methods that she has tried and have found not to be as successful as others and these insights can be very helpful down the road. I'd suggest this book to anyone and everyone, even if I wasn't already an avid baker this book would make me want to run out to the grocery store and straight back into the kitchen!
