Rating: Summary: The Wedding Cake Book by Dede Wilson Review: I rated this book with 3 stars because there is no taste of cake and the style I like for my upcoming wedding next year. It have limited opitions.
Rating: Summary: the wedding cake book Review: I was a little dissapointed with the few cakes displayed in the book. I feel it's a pricy book and should contain more than 15-20 cakes. however, the cakes that appear in the book are beautiful. According to the reviews and description that i was provided with i expected so much more. i found it to be a little helpful, but not worth the money.
Rating: Summary: The Wedding Cake Book Review: I was looking for more traditional types of wedding cake pictures for reference to potential customers. Although the presentation of the book was beautiful, personnaly I was disappointed I do not think my potential customers would go for the exotic type of cake decorating that was used on these cakes in the book. I was looking for a reference book that had more practical, elegant ideas. Some of the cakes were too unusual,(a coconut covered wedding cake) or too plain. I guess it just was not what I was looking for.
Rating: Summary: The Best Wedding Cake Book I've Read Review: I've been baking and decorating wedding cakes for over ten years and I can honestly say that Dede Wilson's Wedding Cake Book is the best I've used. This book is great for those just learning to bake, for those experimenting with their own style, and those who are tired of the same old cakes. I wanted a special cake for a friend's wedding shower and found the White Chocolate cake with the Italian Meringue Buttercream flavored with white chocolate was perfect. I used Dede's advice on using syrups to moisten the cake and I used lemon curd mixed with a little of the icing for the filling. I've made three cakes (each a different size and for different occasions - shower, vow renewal and promotion) with the same recipe and the cakes turned out so well that I was told each time by at least one person that "this is the best cake that I've ever had!" I will always use the syprups in my cakes now and the Italian Meringue Buttercream is now my icing of choice!
Rating: Summary: Excellent How To! Review: If you want to make a wedding cake, or just want to know how they are made, this is the book to get! The author generously shares her expertise in planning, making, transporting, and storing wedding cakes in a very friendly and interesting format. After reading this book, I felt like I'm ready to be a pro. :-) Also the book has many, many recipes of creams and fillings. I didn't know a wedding cake could come in so many different flavor! If you're looking for design ideas, however, this book is probably a bit outdated. I think Martha Stewart Weddings and The Perfect Wedding Cake have beautiful and elegant designs.
Rating: Summary: Wedding Cake Success on First Try Review: Last Spring, I naively volunteered to bake the wedding cake for a colleague's wedding. Little did I know what I was getting into, but without The Wedding Cake Book, the finished product would not have been possible. I baked a three-tier carrot cake, with buttercream frosting. It served 140 people, to rave reviews. Everything, and I repeat EVERYTHING I needed to know about wedding cake consruction was covered clearly in this book. I am an afficionado of carrot cakes, and the recipe provided for this one was simply delicious. People at the wedding loved the cake, and several have asked both for the recipe and for the source. Many times, books simply hype their products. This one is an exception to that maxim. Not only is it good reading, but also it is correctly informative and supportive. One note on previous reviews of this book: the cream cheese salmon cake is not a put-off, as some reviewers described it. Rather, it is an elegant way to introduce something unusual to the wedding table. I truly appreciated Dede Wilson's efforts in this book, as did the bride and groom who cut this carrot cake on their wedding day!
Rating: Summary: I went back and bought it! Review: My brother got married this past September and I made his wedding cake and also made a beautiful cake from this book for my new sister-in-laws bridal shower. My other sister-in-law is expecting this July and I'm hosting her baby shower and she requested I make the same lovely cake for the baby shower. I originally got this book from the library but I loved it so much I went and bought it! There is something for everyone from the exotic(Tropical cakes, Baked Alaska) to beautifully elegant and understated cakes. I used her pound cake recipe and it was wonderful. Not being a professional baker I was astonished at the professional results I received. The tips and recipes in this book are so useful I would have it out of the library year-round so I might as well own it!
Rating: Summary: An excellent resource for wedding cake instruction. Review: Not only are her cakes beautiful, her recipes are wonderful. Dede Wilson covers all the basics of how to create quality wedding cakes and provides the technical knowledge to create a wedding cake from scratch. For anyone interested in cakes, cake decorating or specifically, wedding cakes, this book is essential. It's also a great addition to a cookbook collection as its production values are top quality
Rating: Summary: Good Book with One Minor Exception Review: The book has really good recipes and some delightful, non-traditional cakes (i.e. not Wilton-style). The only problem I had was that the author likes to paint the pillars and separators. She doesn't mention that the paint should be non-toxic or not come into contact with the cake.
Rating: Summary: Bakers, brides and party planners will all find inspiration. Review: The book is aimed at avid home bakers who want to make their own cake, or a friends, as well as at caterers, brides, and party planners to use as an idea book. Don't mistake this for a coffee table book. The cakes were all designed with taste first and foremost in mind, and the cakes can be used for anniversaries, birthdays, graduations, or other occasions where a larger cake is needed, like a pot-luck or bake-sale. I welcome comments and suggestions from readers. Sweet inspiration in your baking!
