Rating: Summary: Who eats at these places? Review: I had gastric bypass surgery a month ago. I bought this book afterwards thinking it would give insight into the ongoing process. Instead I felt like I read a series of restaurant reviews. She continues obsessed with food, eating out, getting bites of desserts, instead of learning to direct her energies in other directions. I agree with other reviewers that her recipes are not made with easily available ingredients.
Rating: Summary: Susan Maria's book is awsome! Review: I had the pleasure of reading Susan Maria's book last week and then meeting her this weekend at the Obesity Help National Convention in Arlington. This book is very well-written. I really enjoyed the journal entries, weight loss surgery information, and the delicious recipes. Susan Maria is of Italian descent and she really knows about good food. As someone who was raised in New Orleans, I am very particular about cuisine, but Susan's recipes do not disappoint! As someone who had this surgery six months ago, Susan Maria Leach's book is a godsend. It's inspirational, uplifting, and a delight-- as is Susan!
Rating: Summary: At Last! Review: I have been waiting months for this book to be released, and I was not disappointed. This is just the best of both worlds: an inspiring personal memoir about the author's own journey, and step-by-step guidelines for my own success! Thank you, Ms. Leach! It was well worth the wait! Is is too soon to hope for a sequel???
Rating: Summary: What a joke!! Review: I have this book because my best friend gave it to me as a gift. I'm 2 years Post op WLS, Lap Rny and I am below my goal weight. Here are my views about this book. I might have enjoyed it more as a Pre-op. It's just like going online and reading someones Profile. As a matter of fact if I recall, most of the book was her Profile! The recipes are not user friendly to say the least, where did she get these and why do we have to order a lot of the ingredients online? We should be able to have recipes that can be easily prepared. Lastly, I have to point out that the last reviewer sounds a lot like the author under an alias name to try and undermine the previous reviewer that said she was smaller than she is and of course to sell her book, I am not the only one that has noticed it either. I am so happy that I did not spend one dime on this book. In fact I'm going to give it away. I also have to disagree about the Carnie Wilson comment, the author has definitely spoke against Carnie and her book and how she has regained her weight, so just because it's not in her book, does not mean she never said it, because I have seen her posts with my own eyes and so have a lot of other people. Don't get me wrong, I do respect her for sharing her story but please don't make her out like a saint because she is not.
Rating: Summary: what i needed!! Review: i think the book was great and i wish i had seen it before my surgery. i liked the recipes, and i like that the author "translates" foods so that i can eat them as a wls post op. she speaks from the heart. i'm glad i bought the book!
Rating: Summary: Before and After: Living and Eating Well After WLS Review: I was more like a journal of her experience w/ wls in the ~1st 60 pages... (perhaps if I read preop would of been more excited???) it is 1/2 recipes pages pp93-244 Q&A pp61-92 and should be a cookbook not WLS book (IMHO)...I guess with almost 2 yrs under my belt and being on 15 ossg-yahoo boards or more it didnt give meanything "new"...Dont get me wrong it isnt bad it just didnt add to my research/knowledge! My 2 cents..(*I wish I had saved the $17!!!)

Rating: Summary: Disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I was so excited that this book was coming out, hoping to get some new info. Well what I got was an OKAY cook book, that is it. If you can get a used copy or even have someone lend it to you then that is the way you should go. Do NOT spend the $24.00 on this book. To bad I can't get a refund!!!
Rating: Summary: There are more helpful books for pre-ops. Review: I'm 5 months out of WLS and I find this book horrible. I'm glad I did not read this before surgery because I would think that life after surgery was perfect. She quickly skims over her bad episodes while going on ad nauseum about her triumphs. We all go through good and bad and it need to have equal weight. Any body who has had surgery will tell you to follow your surgeon's dieticians advice. She offers advice on eating that is not the norm followed by most surgeons. The one point she did not bring home is that everyone is different.
Rating: Summary: Thank you, thank you, thank you Review: I've got a new life through gastric bypass surgery and this is what I needed. What an incredible job she did at giving us "something different". Well worth it at any price!
