Summary: I feel like I've been given the key
Review: For years I swore I would never diet again, and I didn't. Following the principles in this book, I have learned how to calculate, without counting calories, how many calories my body needs to maintain proper weight. More importantly, I never have to feel deprived or struggle with cravings. I am sold on the insuline control theory presented by Dr. Barry. Without wildly fluctuating insuline levels, my hunger level stays on track. Over five months, I have lost 30 lbs.

Summary: A Handy Book To Have Around
Review: I found this book to be very helpful as a reference and guide to planning my meals. I use it a lot at work to quickly see what I can prepare for lunches and dinner based on what ingredients I have on hand. The appendixes list "Zone Friendly" foods and gives you a list of snacks you can prepare. It also gives an example menu for an entire week of meals "in the zone". The week of meals was a great way to get started and get comfortable with the diet.

If you are looking for in-depth information about The Zone Diet this may not be the best book, but it is a good reference for those who are somewhat familiar with the diet.

Summary: A diet for pregnant or nursing women that really works!
Review: I have been looking for a diet that a could go on while breastfeeding. Most diets tell you that a pregnant or nursing woman should not be on that particular diet. I was skeptical about this one too, until I read that this is the diet that pregnant and nursing women should be on!! I have been on it for five weeks - I've lost 14 pounds and have gotten into clothes I haven't worn since I got pregnant with my second child in 1997. I am eating today what I should be eating the rest of my life. I love it. It's not that hard if you just read the book.

Summary: A great plan for lifelong health
Review: My young-adult son is slim and fit, but has been vegan for years and is concerned about adequate protein consumption. He has a job in addition to being a full-time student. Also, he has some inattention problems which he deals with (successfully, with medication.) He has been on Sears' program for one week - substituting soy protein products successfully for his animal-based menu ingedients - and reports that he has never felt better - ever. No lags in energy, no sleepy afternoons, and feels mentally more acute - throughout the day. Sears' theories about insulin and carbohydrates' deleterious effects on blood sugar make sense to him, since he says he's felt those effects for years - unpleasantly. So this book is a huge success for him, and I plan to begin its seemingly simple and sensible way of eating - today!

Summary: It really does work! And it isn't that hard!
Review: I have followed Dr. Sears program for about 2 weeks and have lost about 4 lbs and 2 inches off my waist and my hips. I love this program. I see that some people say that it is a lot of work, too difficult to do, and too time consuming, in their reviews. And, I will agree that a lot of time goes into preparing food, but lunches (which I make the night before) don't take any longer than standing in line at McDonald's during the lunch-hour rush, when you think about it. And, I've been on many other diets that require just as much, if not more work to eat a meal. So, that's just a cop-out. And, as far as the portions: they're huge. Half the time I can't finish my meal. My boyfriend just started thee program and he says the same thing. I'm not hungry between meals anymore, and I have tons of energy. I'm not losing weight as fast as I'd like--but, then again, don't we all want to be at our goal weight overnight? This is the best program I've ever been on, and anyone who thinks differently isn't following it correctly. It isn't all that difficult when you add up the benefits. :)

Summary: Exercise is easier!
Review: Just too hard to do - I only really wanted to lose about 3 kilos, and this probably wasn't the best way for me. By the time you have converted the weights and measures in the book into metric units, and then worked out the zone units then you weren't hungry anymore! Also very unpractical for someone who has a very limited amount of time at breakfast and lunch. While I could probably stick to the dinner menus suggested, it is just too hard to cook up large breakfasts and lunches during the week.

I joined a gym instead and lost the weight that way - any feel great about myself.

Summary: Great intro book to the zone
Review: I think this book is a great introduction to the Zone. However, I think you need to get the 150 recipe book as well because the food selection is limited after a week. I like how it easily explains some of the concepts without going too much in depth which is what his hardcover Mastering the Zone and Zone books seem like.

Summary: Easy, Clear, Effective
Review: I'm not a fad dieter, but after gaining back a good part of the weight that I lost on last year's low fat diet, I decided to try "The Zone." Within two days, I noticed a increase in energy -- I was able to complete my daily 4 mile run without feeling fatigued. The theory behind the diet is explained clearly and without excessive prostelytizing, the "block" method of calculating the amounts of food to be eaten in each category -- fat, protein, carbs -- is easy to follow, the recipes are simple and delicious (even my 11 year old liked the spiced lamb and veggie stew), and the results look to be very good: I've lost two pounds in five days. Plus, I'm never hungry. This one may really work.

Summary: A Week In The Zone Changed Our Life
Review: This is a book that really helped my husband and I start eating well balanced meals, eliminate excess sugar and starches and lose weight. We have lost 7 pounds each and feel great. We don't miss the excess sugar and now everything sweet tastes sweeter because we aren't eating so many sweets. We would recommend "A Week In The Zone" to anyone who is serious about changing their eating habits for the better. It is a life style change and takes a little work at first but it is worth the effort. Thanks Dr. Sears!

Summary: True,,,, Nothing new BUT, makes the previous info CLEAR.
Review: I have so many friends succesfully doing The Zone, but I felt it was just too complicated & I didn't have the time to study it. This book clears all that up. Easy to follow, exciting because I know it will enhance my health ie: Life. NOW I too know what all those pro-zoners are talking about & even more important doing that is making them such go getters, with energy to spare! If you've been discouraged in the past with the the Zone books, this is well worth a look. I think you'll be as pleased as I am. Slainte (to your health)
