Summary: Very similar to Pillsbury's!
Review: Although this is a fine cookbook, my wife and I were startled to find that many of the recipes contained here are identical or very similar to ones contained in "Pillsbury Doughboy Slow Cooker Recipes" book. Even some of the pictures are identical.

Our advice: buy one or the other, but not both!

Summary: You can't go wrong with Betty
Review: For good, basic information about any cooking technique or food group, Betty Crocker is one of the best resources. You can count on clear, concise directions, excellent photos of the finished dish, and a wide range of dishes. This book is no exception. Whether you're new to slow cookers or an old hand, there will be something here that will make you want to fire up the crock pot and get cooking.

Summary: At last - a slow cooker cookbook with variety!
Review: I absolutely love this cookbook! The recipes aren't all variations on a theme like many crockpot cookbooks. The "Ingredient Substitutions" given for many of the recipes is especially helpful, as are the "Finishing Touches." "Betty's Success Tips" are great because they often explain why you need to use a certain ingredient, or follow a certain procedure. And the desserts are AWESOME! The chocolate rice pudding is addictive, the Cinnamon Raisin Bread Pudding and the Hot Fudge Sundae Cake are exellent, and the Cherry Cobbler is a favorite with my kids. This is now my favorite crockpot cookbook!

Summary: Very helpful book- even has nutritional information!
Review: I had to buy this one- I had renewed the library copy once too often. I have four kids and use my slow cooker several times a week. I have found most of the recipes in this book reliable, and love the fact that it has nutritional information on the recipes. I have made about ten of the recipes in here and with one exception (the jambalaya) they have all been good. This isn't gourmet cooking by any stretch of the imagination but it's convenient and better eating than fast food for my family.

Summary: Great Book!
Review: I have enjoyed this book tremendously. The recipes are not the "add a can of soup" variety.

Summary: some good...some not so good
Review: I have used this book over the past three weeks. For the most part, the recipes have been good. Not great...but good. However, I recently tried the sun-dried tomato chicken breast recipe and it was awful. The recipe did not use any liquid, which puzzled me from the start. You do need some type of liquid when using a crockpot. I cooked the dish for an hour less than the recipe called for and the chicken was still so tough as to be uneatable.

Summary: Very good slow cooker book
Review: I initially tried three recipes totally as written, to test the
books merit. I found them very good and quite edible. After that
I modified recipes to my families likes and dislikes. Making a
recipe as written knowing that it contains ingredients you or
your family either detest or at least dislike is asking for
the ruination of the whole meal. I can't imagine trying several
recipes from the book and finding them awful unless you are doing
just that. As far as cooking with sun dried tomatoes, I believe
they are an acquired taste which I don't have yet, therefore I
restrict them to side dishes until I acquire the taste or give
up on them.
This book is very good at giving the basics to which you can
infuse your own epicurian taste ingredients.

Summary: Great book!
Review: I love this book! The first time I used my crock pot I tried a recipe from this book, and it came out wonderful! Even my husband got in on the act and put dinner together one day. The directions are easy to understand, the ingredients are readily available in most kitchens, and the end results looks and tastes as if you spent the entire day slaving over a hot stove. Highly recommended.
