Summary: Just as I Expected
Review: A beautiful cookbook from a very talented chef. Easy to read and understand. Recipes from easy to complex but always easy to follow. Beautiful pictures of the finished recipe and wonderful food styling. It's the best cookbook I have bought in a long time. Several pictures of gorgeous Tyler too. If you enjoy watching Tyler cook then you will enjoy this cookbook. I highly recommend!

Summary: Great if consider expensive gourmet
Review: A great gourmet cookbook but by no means reflects the title "... Real Kitchen" I'm a 30 something dad looking to improve the quality of our everyday family meals. The title and all the great reviews drew me in! - Tyler must have lots of friends :)

If you think that a single recipe comprised of "Salmon Gravlax", "Buckwheat Blini", and "Dill Creme Fraiche" is appropriate for a "real kitchen" cookbook than this is the book for you !

I need high quality practical recipes that can be prepared in short order - not, "Clambake" with lobsters, kielbasa, clams and oysters!

I firmly believe that the readers and the publisher would be better served if this were re-marketed as a "Gourmet Cookbook".

Summary: Beware Tyler fans: Food 911 or How To Boil Water this is not
Review: After reading these reviews and seeing that the title was "Real Kitchen" I assumed that this book would be more like Tyler's shows and full of his easy style of just whipping stuff up. However, the book is full of highfalutin recipes and hard-to-find ingredients. I have never cooked with fresh figs and don't plan to any time soon.

I wanted something that is more easy going, like Tyler seems to be. This book is fru-fru and fussy as far as I'm concerned.

If you want a more practical book, look elsewhere. Sorry Tyler! Maybe your next cookbook with suit me better. I will still watch him on TV and perhaps download recipes that I think I will like from the Food Network website instead.

Summary: Florence uses siplicty, yet maintains flavor in food
Review: As a member of the miniscule group of teenage males who enjoy cooking, i have found it difficult to agree with the whole "celebrity chef" culture. I am amazed that this book incorporates flavors from around the world into a package that doesnt need catchphrases every other sentence and excessive amounts of garlic. Florence encourages the mind and palet with dishes that can make even the pickiest of eaters enjoy food. This is a must have, even for those of you who dont like to spend money on cookbooks. Florence is truly in it for the food, not the celebrity.

Summary: One of my new favorites!
Review: At first glance, many of the recipes looked too complicated and/or expensive to make. We have a 3-month-old son and so I don't exactly have time to spend hours slaving over the stove. However, once I really sat down and read the recipes, they aren't too hard for someone who knows the basics of cooking. Yes, some of the ingredients are a little pricier but the results are so worth it and with a well-stocked pantry and refrigerator, I found most of the recipes only take buying one or two things (such as the meat). So far, I have tried quite a few of the recipes and really enjoyed making the dishes. The most outstanding one I have made was the Sage-Roasted Pork Tenderloin with Dried Plum Sauce. I used a Biltmore Estate Merlot, which seemed to be perfect in the sauce, and the dish turned out absolutely great! The sauce is such a beautiful, deep-red color and the pork tenderloin was indeed tender...it's the kind of dish you would pay $20 to $30 a plate for at a restaurant. I would definitely recommend this cookbook to anyone who knows their way around the kitchen at least a little, and enjoys making simple, yet elegant dishes.

Summary: Luckier than Flay, Brown, LaGasse and 2 Fat Ladies
Review: combined! Tyler Florence seduces his guests with his sensual technique, his teasing, playful manner has them eating out of his hand, literally!
All of us aspiring cooks has at least one meal we can't cook!. Over cooked rice, under done roasts. Tyler goes to one of his viewers kitchen and whips out a tool of his trade. A saute pan, a blender, a pepper mill that he instructs how to set just right. To fulfill all of the expectations of the night. Sipping a a bit of appropriate wine of the pre dining experience.
After a bit of kitchen foreplay, he get's down and sweaty. The perfect application of heat and technique - the skillet flipping, the Chef's pinch of fresh herbs, the piece d' resistance - sharing a sample bite from the same utensil!
No meal is complete without proper "plating" of the various components of the evening's romantic repast. Start with the creamed sweet potato and lima bean mash as a base, building taller and higher with fresh vegetables and lean your meat entree artistically against the accompaniments. A dab here of sauce, a bit of fresh crushed pepper, fresh herb - basil, tarragon, etc.
Forget the dirty dishes tonight baby, the night belongs to us!

Forget Jaime, he's OK but Tyler Florence is the stud on FoodTV AND the more learned chef.

Summary: Disappointment
Review: Enjoy Tyler Florence's FoodTV shows. This book was a big disappointment, didn't contain recipes that are so enjoyable on his shows. Too much seafood and pork. Flipped through and resold on ebay the next day. Skip this one.

Summary: Great recipies, however some work involved.
Review: First, I love this book, and am very much looking forward to the release of Tyler's next cookbook.

With that said, a majority of the recipies in this book are quite advanced.

With the exception of a few recipies, most of these will require you to make a trip to your local grocery store, and a few specialty stores as well.

As a "hobby chef" I find myself waiting for the weekend to attempt most of these recipies, as it lets me spend a good amount of time in the kitchen.

While the recipies require a bit of work, the results are usually spectacular. I do agree with another reviewer that the idea of "eyeballing" certain ingredients is a bit of a pain. I really have no clue what a "3-count" of something is. So I find myself guessing at a few ingredents.

I think this is a great cookbook for advanced cooks, and food-lovers alike.

Summary: Tyler Makes Cooking Fun
Review: Having had the pleasure of working with Tyler Florence on an episode of Tyler's Ultimate (It was the Ultimate Paella episode with the Three Guys from Miami.) I can tell you that Tyler is a really nice guy. He's not pretentious like so many of the professional chefs we run into in our own travels!

Tyler is laid back and has a great sense of humor. I personally recommend this, his first cookbook! The book is full of great recipes that are fun and easy to prepare!

In fact, Tyler gave us some very good advice as we worked on our own cookbook, "Three Guys from Miami Cook Cuban" ISBN 158685433X from Gibbs Smith Publisher. The Three Guys from Miami look forward to working with Tyler again on an upcoming episode!

Summary: Awesome recipes & beautiful book
Review: I am in love with this book! I needed another cookbook like a hole in the head but the book captivated me. I saw so many recipes that I wanted to try so I bought it. So far I have made the Tuna Steak Salad, Cinnamon Apple Croissants and the Garlic Smashed Chicken. My family is very happy that Tyler wrote this book.
I highly recommend this book, as you will enjoy it from cover to cover.
