Rating: Summary: My favorite store ice cream but not my favorite book Review: There is really only one thing that I don't like about this book but it is a pretty big one for me. They don't have a sweet cream base that uses eggs that are cooked (you need to use one of the bases to make each recipie). I am not a huge fan of bases without eggs (like their #2 base which is cream, half and half and sugar) since they don't freeze well and really should be eaten right away. I would only recommend this book if you already have a base that you have had success with that has eggs that are cooked (which produces a much creamier ice cream than the non egg version).
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: Every recipe I've tried in this cookbook has been excellent. I also appreciate the tips and commentary provided by the authors. This is a great choice.
Rating: Summary: Great Ice Cream Book Review: This is a great ice cream cookbook - it's easy & funny to read. The recipies turn out quite similar to the products sold in the store. Definitely an easy-to-use cookbook. Simple.
Rating: Summary: Excellent & Easy! Review: Excellent ice cream! Very easy and the recipes work exceptionally well for the Cuisinart Ice Cream maker. I highly recommend it. It is also an easy way to learn how to create some of your own Ice Cream ideas.
Rating: Summary: Always Enjoy A Ben & Jerry's with this book!!! Review: If you love Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream but cringe sometimes at the price, this book is for you. I don't know how this would work with a hand spun maker but with the electric one I bought (Cuisinart ICE-20, its perfect every time. Just the base recipe alone is worth making daily!! WOW! My whole family can't believe how much this taste like the real thing. I never had any ice-cream making experience before and now I can make awesome ice-cream for a great price. Enough for the whole family (34 adults, 2 kids) for around $3-$4. Great deal. My cookie dough recipe was incredible. Worth every penny and won't disappoint!!!
Rating: Summary: The be all and end all of ice cream "cook"books Review: As a pastry chef, I've tried at least a dozen different ice cream books in the past year. This one is HANDS DOWN the best. The recipes are straightforward and fast, and the flavors are a sure-fire hit. You can't go wrong with this cookbook.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Necessary! Review: If you have an ice cream machine (I highly recommend the Cuisinart one), you MUST get this book! Great recipes that can be adapted to your particular tastes, and that come out PERFECT on your very first try. I can't say that about my other ice cream recipe cookbooks! Another hint: DON'T use the recipes in the ice cream maker instruction booklet -- they'll make you want to return the machine!
Rating: Summary: Cheap, well-written, but limited... Review: This is a good starter for those of us new to the "home ice cream making" biz. I'll go ahead and get my disappointment with the book out first--a lot of the better B&J flavors are absent. However, they give you enough that you can do what they did--experiment your way to new flavors. The best thing about the book, besides the price, is the insider information that helps the layperson understand what makes good ice cream good. Also, the recipes are easy to follow and turn out very well even on the first try. Most of the flavors inside really don't tempt my taste buds, but there are several good ones--enough to make the purchase worthwhile--and there is enough information to allow you to confidently experiment. Hey, why not? You can eat the results either way!
Rating: Summary: A MUST HAVE, for ice cream makers! Review: This book has everything you'll need to know about making your own ice cream. Easy to follow, which is a must also for me! Like their ice cream , this book is the greatest. Everything from Cherry Garcia to marvelous sauces.
Rating: Summary: MMMMMMM, Ice cream Review: We tried making the recipie for light choclate ice cream, and it turned out to be the richest ice cream I've ever had (and I am an ice cream snob). Very good, but you could only eat a few bites. The recipies are great, and you learn a lot about what makes good ice cream opposed to the 99 cent specials. The only way to improve on a good type of ice cream is to make it at home and get that home-made texture. (Picture a salivating mouth).
