Rating: Summary: Charming read, would make a good movie, but can she cook? Review: Oh yeah, the intro by that Midnight author guy is in here. Yippee! For fans of his, this may be the only reason to buy this book, so I'm giving it 2 stars for that. I have to wonder if all these recipes even tested. I 've heard her cafe is actually good, but I cooked about 10 of the recipes in the book and they all were dissapointing. I almost felt ripped off. Don't waste your money. If you want to cook great southern food, try out True Grits or A Gracious Plenty - much better than this.
Rating: Summary: Y'all are gonna LOVE this! Review: OK, I admit that I am a Paula Deen, Food Network groupie...I love her warm, upbeat manner and I'm impressed with her Cinderella story which has been recounted by countless other reviewers. Her charm is found all through this title and its sequel and reading the stories behind the recipes is just as enlightening as the recipes themselves. Paula writes the way she speaks, and you can even hear her easy Savannah drawl as you read. The recipes are down-to-earth, mostly pretty simple, and decadently satisfying. Those doing Atkins or Weight Watchers need not apply here...we're talkin' SERIOUS cheese, butter, and cream (yep, the real stuff!). After making the basic meat loaf, sesame chicken strips, pot roast (my husband RAVED!), Southern fried chicken, and baked spaghetti (this, actually from the 2nd book), I was convinced that hearty Southern cooking would become a regular part of my usually less calorie-laden California fare! Fun and delicious!
Rating: Summary: "Lady and the Trampy" food! Review: Paula Deen can't cook! A better book is "Mama Dip's Kitchen". It is real southern style cooking-Mildred "Dip" Council has been cooking all of her life and knows what she is doing?
Rating: Summary: Fabulous cookbook Review: Paula Deen is a real treasure, Savannah is lucky to call her their own! I like her recipes as they call for ingredients that are readily available and are easy to prepare. I plan on trying many of her recipes.
Rating: Summary: Country Cooking with Flair Review: Paula Deen's cookbook gives us recipes not only from her famous Savannah restaurant but also from her family and friends. This is a true southern cookbook with many wonderful "comfort food" recipes. If you understand southern cooking, you know that most recipes are not for those with an aversion to butter, sour cream and salt. However, if you can get past that mindset, you'll love her terrific and simple recipes such as hoppin' John, collard greens, fried green tomatoes and baked grits. This is an unpretentious and charming cookbook with lots of familiar southern favorites with Paula's special interpretation of them.

Rating: Summary: True Southern Cooking Review: Paula is the true southern belle of down home cooking. I received this cookbook as a present from some friends, and it was one of the best cookbooks I've ever received. Each recipe has it's own litte way of bringing joy and fun to your table. One in particular, the Lucious Lime Cheesecake Bars are to die for! You'll receive compliment after compliment when you make these! Not to mention anything else! The book is very straightfoward, with easy to follow directions, and variations of recipes as well. I highly reccommend this book, and know it will bring a little more southern hospitality your way!
Rating: Summary: This one is on top of the pile! Review: Putting it simply, this cookbook is a lot of fun! It's fun to read, fun to use, and the food is truly fun to eat! I am ordering my second copy because my 86-year-old midwestern mom visited and loved the recipes I fixed from Paula's book. She took home the Gooey Butter Cake recipe and has made it four times in three weeks and shared it with everyone in her little town in Tennessee. It's a great book and SO easy to use. I am addicted to Paula's house seasoning which now sits to the left of my cooktop at all times. Try it...you'll love it.
Rating: Summary: So good! Review: The cover is very pretty and would go nicley with my new wallpaper! I give it a FIVE star review!
Rating: Summary: Simple receipes!! Review: This book is real easy to follow. I am a inexperienced cook and her receipes are kept simple to where the average person can follow them. I really like how she gives shortcuts where you are not slaving away in the kitchen all day. I have made lots of items from her book and have not found one that I didnt like!! I highly recommend Ms. Deen's books. I watch her show every day and do find alot of the reciepes from the book on the show which I find to be helpful(so I can see what things are suppose to look like!!)
