Rating: Summary: Not as good as many say Review: I'm working on setting up a corporate intranet web site that will use Site Server primarily for Content Management, Search and Analysis. The book does not adequately explain the process for setting up this type of site. The Membership Server installation is not fully explained and you will probably end up using Access as your database. The example sites that ship with the product are not much help either. The section "Creating a FrontPage Publishing Site" is also lacking necessary detail for this scenario. They try to cover way too much material in one book. Also, there are so many different ways to set up Site Server that you could have a book this size just to cover that topic. Only small sections of this book have been helpful. I'm thinking that when I finish this project I'm going to write my own book.
Rating: Summary: Very good although could be better! Review: It is very good for anyone that want to know SS/SSCE.This book really provided detailed materials for SS/SSCE. But it is a littile difficult for the beginners. If you are new one to study SS/SSEC, I recommend you to buy "Site Server Bible..." (I forget that name.) which could give you a good big picture of SS/SSCE in very short time. But this book, you must have sufficient time and interests on SS/SSCE to read it because it is a really heavy and thick book. Anyway, in the current marketing, this book is the best for SS/SSCE (that's why I give it 4 stars but not 3 stars.)
Rating: Summary: Wonderful book! Review: Organized very well, written good and covers a lot. I just can't agree with those who purchasing 1000 pages book and expecting to get the whole world, in it. If you don't want to read the Help you never gonna find your way around. This book gives you a little bit more that just hitting F1. Personally I don't want to buy a book that covers what I already got in MSDN this book does that pretty good. wrox keep up the good work!
Rating: Summary: Better than the rest, but still lacking.... Review: Professional Site Sertver 3.0 from Wrox is the best book that I have read that explains overall what is going on under the hood of SS 3.0. SS is a complex piece of software that integrates with many other MS Back Office solutions, particulalry IIS 4.0 and SQL Server 7.0. The problem is you will need more information than what they give you here due to the complexity of the toolset and configurations. Ultimately, you will be interested in buying Wrox's Site Server Personalization and Membership to get a more thorough understanding of this critical component. This is a good example of how in depth the material converage should be for each of SS's components. Last word: This is a great book for now, but ultimately it will leave you in a pinch for more detailed information as you traverse your installation and configuration. Additionall, it lacks coverage in the design of truly scalable enterprise e-commerce architecture using SS, and the interoperability of third-party modular components, say, for instance, if you want to integrate an accounting system, or a different order fulfillment software, or transcation processing outside of MS Wallet (e.g. Transact). It would be a huge boon to the people using this if publishers would get on the trail of the hottest technology since NT, and publish some in depth Site Server books based on the modularity of its design. Hoping to encompass all of the feature sets in a 1000 page book will leave you feeling like a kid in a candy store with only a nickle in his pocket. -ch

Rating: Summary: Good Content, Bad Edit Review: Site Server has so many facets that it is tough to cover them all without dilluting each. This book contains a good deal of detail about each of Site Server's capabilities. Kudos to the Authors, Jeers to the editors - I have found a tremendous amount of spelling errors. (Than again, reelly, hoo kares abowt that stuff anyweigh? )
Rating: Summary: This one is a must have if you're using Site Server Review: The book is most organized and complete source of Site Server information available. The real life experience of the authors is a real plus. If you're looking for a complete overview of Site Server, with advice from people who've been there, this is the book.
Rating: Summary: Not recommended for professionals Review: This book provides a lot of critical information, but it so poorly organized that it is useless. If you want to merely learn your way around the MMC and learn about the sample applications then this may be the book for you. If you're a serious application developer, find another route and don't waste your 50 bucks!
Rating: Summary: Best of all Site Server books Review: This Wrox book is on of the most comprehensive works on Site Server. It's a great companion to Site Server membership and personalization (Wrox as well). This book gives you detailed views of code samples sites and importantly (which no other book or MS documentation does) gives you an architecture view of the asp, COM objects, the pipeline and IIS. The book covers both the Knowledge Management edition and Commerce Edition of Site Server. The case study in chapter 23 is very good and as usual Wrox has the source code on their site you can down load. If you get this book don't get Site Server Commerce edition 3.0 also from Wrox, you wont need it!
