Summary: littered with mistakes, awkward and clumsy writing
Review: 215 pages through this text I finally abandoned it. I have a half dozen different books on the new CCNP routing and this was the third one I've read. I have enough background in cisco to recognize some of the flagrant errors in this book. I decided that it would be better to stop reading it lest there were mistakes I wasn't catching. OSPF and BGP are complicated enough with out getting bad information and disjoint writing. It also spent an inordinate amount of time in the early chapters going over basic CCNA level material.

Summary: Too many errors
Review: Although I did pass the exam on the first try, I would not recommend this book. I used the old ACRC book from Cisco press along with experience. There are just too many errors in this book and it does not cover the exam material enough.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent breakdown of Routing and the exam.
Review: Exam 640-503 is one for the CCNP Certification and preparing for the exam you need to have the right book at the right time. Coriolis's timing is perfect with the delivery of the exam prep for the routing exam.

In the 675-page exam prep book you start with routing fundamentals and principles to lay the foundation of routing. You then go over the routing protocols to begin to build on that foundation.

The authors then cover OSPF in both the single and multiple areas configurations, which is one of the most complete breakdowns I have seen so far. Then on to EIRGP and BGP followed up with management and optimization of the networks.

Included in the book to make the learning more visual is figures, diagrams, tables and most importantly router screen shots. There is also the review questions and hands-on projects at the end of each chapter to verify your learning.

As if that wasn't enough there is also a cd-rom with practice tests and you can download more questions right off the net. The exams are setup in several formats from fixed length, random to review and test all.

Summary: INJECT SOME HIGH POWER CISCO KNOWLEDGE INTO YOUR VEINS AND
Review: FEEL YOUR BLOOD TEMPERATURE START TO RISE AS YOU THINK ABOUT ALL THE MONEY YOU'LL BE GETTING WHEN YOU GET YOUR CCNP. WELL, MAYBE NOT. BUT GET THIS BOOK FOR THE BSCN TEST, IT'S REALLY THOROUGH (ESPECIALLY ON THE ROUTING PROTOCOLS) AND IT EXPLAINS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO PASS. KEWL, HUH? AND HEY CHECK OUT THE BRAIN DUMP FOR CISCO AT BRAINDUMPS.COM. HERE YOU'LL GET SPECIFIC INFO ON WHAT PEOPLE WHO HAVE TAKEN THE TEST HAVE TO SAY ABOUT IT (LIKE WHATS ON IT, YES BOY).

Summary: Excellent Explanations
Review: If you need simple explanations of complex routing topics like OSPF and BGP - than this book is for you. This book is much better than attempting to learn from the official Cisco materials - with the exception of the Routing TCP/IP volumes, of course. Those books are also a must have for an NP or IE candidate.

Summary: littered with mistakes, awkward and clumsy writing
Review: Just passed the 640-503 exam using this book as my last reference/prep. Also helpful were Doyle's Routing TCP/IP Vol I and Huitema's Routing in the Internet. Also of interest is the Hutnik CCIE Lab Study guide, which has useful configs for testing in a lab environment.

Coverage of routing protocols, VLSM, Redistribution was excellent. Very good use of diagrams and examples to illustrate. Probably the best Exam Prep style book I've read to date, in terms of matching exam requirements.

Gave it 4 stars due to existence of editorial errors - you should pick them up easily if you know yer stuff. I didn't see a www link for errata. Overall, and after the fact, I'd recommend this book as a single point of reference for studying for and passing 640-503 to anyone experienced with Cisco routing protocols.

Summary: and besides being full of mistakes, the CD didn't work
