Summary: Some good ideas
Review: First of all, this is not a book for beginners. I had to buy a more basic instruction manual to cover the details that this one takes for granted. But once you get past that, there's some great material here. The attention here is not on the mechanics of graphics creation (hence the need for prior knowledge), but on how to make graphics look good. As such, the author uses extensive examples from his own and others' experience. The 160 full-color glossy illustrations are nice, too. And if you don't like the examples themselves, they do provide plenty of ideas for things you can do on your own. There's also a lot of material on how to use graphics to improve Web sites, which was useful as well. My main problem was that it could have been a bit longer.

Summary: Mostly out of date, with the release of Photoshop 5
Review: I have been using Photoshop for the Web for over two months now and it became my daily work and play reference. As an architect working overseas, I am using the web and e-mail to communicate with clients and consultants around the world. Very often using images more than words. Being able to produce and edit good quality, compact images is essential and Photoshp for the Web delivers. I particularly like the "cookbook" approach. Not being a multimedia artist/expert, this is the first book that gives me both - ready to use recipes for successful product and enough information to experiment with and learn my own solutions. Highly recommended!

Summary: Great book - better than the rest!
Review: I loved this book. I discovered an infinite number of new tricks using the Photoshop tools I already knew. Everything was spelled out clearly as the what the tip or procedure will accomplish, how to accomplish it in Photoshop with step-by-step instructions and why it works in the first place. Plus the book is well-organized so I can quickly find and refind what I was after.

There are many ways to accomplish the same end in Photoshop. This book shows some of the most clever and efficient ways to prepare graphics for the Web. Even the experts, such as the professional web designers surveyed from the book, could benefit from Photoshop for the Web. As both a bookseller and web consultant, I recommend this book over the rest.

Summary: Excellent, but obviously out of date
Review: I noticed that this book was on the Bargain book page. Obviously with the release and already widespread acceptance of Photoshop 7, buying this book which focusses on version 4 is completely out of date. Now that Photoshop has ImageReady, using Photoshop to develop web graphics is easy and intuitive. If you are new to the graphics world, don't let the bargain price trick you.

Summary: Photoshop for the Web is not 'just another Photoshop book!'
Review: Photoshop for the Web is not 'just another Photoshop book of shortcut commands and tool tips. It IS an invaluable collection of insider techniques that the experts use everyday in their combined art and occupation to exploit the usefulness of this truly amazing program. I love how this software has been so widely adopted and used in ways never imagined in its conception. The question rapidly becomes what can't Photoshop do? Mikkel does a great job of showing you this tool's versatility in an easy to follow text.
