Rating: 4 stars
Summary: This is a good overview
Review: This book provides a good overview of the AS/400 system. This book takes a system that can seem like a maze of confusion and provides a simple, yet concise explanation of it. This includes how to navigate around the system. This book proiveds a good overview of the command language (CL) that enable you to navigate around the system as well as discussions on the menus the AS/400 provides which is basically the alternative way to navigate around the system. Also it discusses security considerations, provides a good overview of objects, libraries and files, etc. and gives a good understanding of the nifty tools available to programmers as well as what languages can be used on the system. It also provides discussions on topics such as networking, performance tuning and migration to the AS/400 system. In other words this book is a great starting place but if you want to dig deeper into the topics the book discusses you will need other material. If there is anything I have against the book, there are not enough hands on examples given for practicing the concepts given. You will have to come up with your own. This is also a very good reference source if you forget concepts
