Summary: Hey, it's not all THAT great
Review: Having condemned other "test yourself" test compilations regarding A+, and having been impressed by the other glowing reviews this text recieved, I rushed out to buy it. My verdict? Don't be fooled; this text is just as saturated with errors as all the others. The other A+ test compilation I reviewed/condemned had over 1,000 questions; this one has less than half that many. It includes a CD with two tests, one for core, one for DOS/Windows; however, the test software itself is buggy, and easily crashed. The questions have as many, or more, errors on a percentage basis as other test question compilations I reviewed. And, despite other comments on this review page, I found no particular correlation between the questions on the actual exam and the test questions in this book. This is as it should be; just don't think that all you need to do is memorize these questions and write your A+. You'll fail.

I haven't found ANY test question compilations I can honestly recommend, and this one is no different. If you want to learn - and pass - the A+ exams, purchase Mueller's "Upgrading and Repairing PCs, 11th edition" as an absolute must have, and possibly Charles Brook's "A+ certification training guide" from New Riders. With these two books and nothing else, I achieved 81% on the DOS/Windows exam, and 96% on the core exam. Once you've thoroughly learned all those books have to offer, if you still want to purchase test prep questions/software, then do so; but do NOT use them as a study aid. Use them only as a guide to identifying areas that you don't understand.

To do anything else is to court disaster.

Summary: Outstanding book
Review: I do tech support for a living, so I've read lots of A+ books. This has got to be the worst of the bunch... it has nothing in common with the excellent A+ Exam Cram, except for a few republished questions. The book contains several errors (both factual and typographical), as does the CD-ROM. Some of the practice questions have little or nothing to do with their supposed subject matter - there's a question about printer corona wires on the DOS/Windows exam, for example; many others are horribly worded, ambiguous, or simply irrelevant (CompTIA does not care how many icons are in the Control Panel - they want to make sure you know what they do).

With quality practice tests available free for download, why pay good money for four inaccurate ones? Buy the A+ Exam Cram and the Audio Review (neither by Michael Pastore) and you'll do fine on the exam. Leave this to rot next to "Build your own 286" in the Amazon warehouse.

Summary: Passed my exam, great help
Review: I have read this through twice and it is best for background info, but it is not focused enough to use for A+ studying. Get transcenders.

Summary: Waste of your money and time
Review: This book has alot of errors and not one of these questions are on the A+ test. If you think that you can just study from this booklet and pass your in for a wake-up call. Don't waste your money on this book. It is better used as a door stop or as toilet paper than a A+ exam cram study guide.

Summary: Great preparation resource
Review: This book is a great tool for preparing for the exam. Be sure to use it in conjunction with your core learning tools. There are a few errors in this book, but I have not seen an examination preparation series that have no errors.

Only use this book to find out areas you may need to refresh on. This is not meant as a instructional book.

Summary: Right after taking the test Nov 18, 2000
Review: Wanted to give you guys a heads up on this book. Although it is a fantastic book to test your knowledge of the subject matter in the core exams, there was only one question from this book in the exam itself. Note also that the exam has been changed since the publishing of this book it is now only a 30 question exam with a 30 min time limit. If you are intending on taking the exam within the year you should definitely purchase the larger version or the adaptive version of this book it will help you much more. A note about the exam: STUDY I found it a lot harder then what I was lead to believe.
