Summary: Not exactly what it seems
Review: Excellent book! It should be included with any purchase of Logic Audio. Actually you should read this book before you even buy Logic Audio. It is full of information not just about the program, but computer systems and what kind of performance you can expect from different types of systems (great resource on CPU comparisons, hard drive performance, sound and MIDI interface choices). The book is clearly written, with excellent diagrams and screen shots to help you understand the functions of Logic Audio. Not as detailed as the owners manual, but 100 times more readable and understandable. It is the perfect companion to the official owners manual. After reading this book, I have a much better understanding of Logic Audio and can better follow the concepts presented in the owners manual. This book also includes a CD ROM with a great selection of utilities, plug-in's and other useful information. I was pulling my hair out, ready to give up on Logic Audio until I got this book, now I can run the program and have begun to take advantage of the vast features it offers. Get this book, you won't regret it.

Summary: Useless for a beginner
Review: I orderd this book hoping that it would provide some more useful insights into using Logic Audio to make music, neat tricks or tips or tried and true methods of using the power of Logic - where the documentation from Emagic themselves tends to list off every possible thing that can be done with controls.

Instead I found a rehashing of some of the more basic points of the user manual and about half of the book seems to be dedicated to designing and setting up a computer to use with Logic. That's all fine - but I certainly didn't find it helpful.

If Logic audio is NOT your first computerized music software (any experience with digital audion, including CD burning and mp3 encoding/decoding counts here) then this book will probably not be helpful to you. If you know about how computer hardware works (the concept of a bus and how bus speeds and processors interact) then do not order this book, as a large portion of it will bore you to tears.

On the plus side, if you have emagic logic, you know a bit about how to ue it, but you don't have the faintest idea of how your computer is working underneath all of that and how logic is working in that computer (or how any application is working, for that matter) - then go ahead and get the book, but a good session with a friend who can explain things will probably be more beneficial.

Summary: basic guide book with tips - best for beginners.
Review: It seems PC-based recording guide book rather than Logic Audio guide book. The writer spended 2/3 of book for basic concepts of effectors, system set-ups and basic mixing ways. Yes, it's a good book, but if you already have books about mix-down or recording, you may be able to do the same thing with the books and original manual book of Logic Audio - without spending money on this book.

Summary: Audio information does me no good...
Review: This book is for those of you who have read the manual and are still just as confused as to how to unlock the full power of Logic Audio. It's like having a personal tutor sitting next to you talking you through the processes step by step in plain English. So if you're finding Logic more of a hinderence to your creativity than a tool for expressing it, then this book is exactly what you're looking for.

Summary: Useless for a beginner
Review: This book spends for too much time on either extremly basic concepts such as installation of the program, and suitable hardware or too much on using advanced features without explaining the basic tools and concepts behind the different windows and modes. There was not one word on the "environment" window or how to use it, and only 4 pages on the arrange window. If you want advance tips and tricks, maybe this would be of some assistance, but as a beginner, I learned very little useful information from this book.

Summary: terrible
Review: this is THE book to get if you are still choosing a PC to run Logic on. Half the book is taken up with detail on SCSI/UDMA/Memory/Motherboard configurations better for audio use.

if you already have this bit sorted, the remainder of the book is no more than a flashy introduction to the audio capabilities of logic. info of this small depth should be free.

definitely not a manual, or lasting companion to recording audio on a PC. still waiting for Fast Guide to Logic Audio!

Summary: What about the program?
Review: You'd imagine a book with the words--"Guide to Logic Audio Windows" in the title would be about how to use a software program by the same name. Apparently this is not true. >Plenty< full of attempts at cleverness. I kept waiting for the filler to end and the information to begin, but I hit the back cover before that happened. Save your money for "Fast Guide to Logic Audio Platinum" when it comes out. It >has< to be better!
