Summary: Good enuf for starters
Review: First things first.....keep this book near your development machine.
When I started reading this book, I honestly felt that this book was telling me what I already knew. Well, partly coz I learnt some cool stuff about the IDE when I joined my job. As I read further, I was impressed with what the IDE provided and generally we as programmers/developers tend to ignore...even to look at it. While this book states that it covers the VS.NET IDE's from 2002 all the way to 2005, one-third of the book covers 2005...And the remaining book tells that this is there is 2003 but is better in 2005. The sad part about the book is that since 2005 is not yet released, and the non-MSDN subscribers don't use the 2005 IDE, the user may want to hang on to this book till the IDE comes out.
Having read the "Debugging Windows applications with VS.NET - By John Robbins" at school, I feel that the "debugging section" in this book is for novices.

And to answer the good-ol' question of would I buy this book....I would say "maybe - depending on my current expertise with the VS.NET 2003 IDE" ....but for someone who want to improve his/her productivity with the IDE...this book is worth its salt.

Summary: Too Good for words
Review: From my short time here on planet earth - there's two things you can safely assume about anyone with the last name of Nguyen - 1) They're smart as hell 2) They usually have more consonants in their first name than vowels.

So Who in the Hell is Minh? A totall bad ass.

About two weeks ago, he wrote me and and mentioned that he wrote a book and was wondering if I'd review it.

Ok, Minh - here's your review:

--------------------- BUY THIS BOOK - IT KICKS A33 ----------

This book is nothing short of a masterpiece. [...]My absolute favorite one - although not the most 'important one' in on Page 20 Figure 23 - Creating Rectangular Sections. No, this isn't about GDI+ it's about the IDE. How in the hell this didn't get picked up by a major publisher is beyond me - but the publisher did a great job.

This book isn't about .NET per se, it's all about it IDE - (although a book about the IDE and O.P.P. would be really COOL). I could babble on and on -but I don't need to - Minh just straight up Kicks ass and takes no prisoners. If you wanna keep it real with the IDE - by both books, they'll pay for themselves by LunchTime.

Summary: A great handbook for Visual Studio
Review: If you use Visual Studio this is a must have handbook. It covers tips and customization for the IDE. I have found myself more productive since I've adopted a couple of the techniques found in the text. Another plus is that it covers Visual Studio 2005! It is nice to have a single source (that is printed) to go to for improving my use of Visual Studio.

Now I can use VS much more efficently!

I give 4 stars(not 5) because of price - to high for me...

Summary: My favorite kind of book
Review: This book is a great value, and the author is a good writer. This is my favorite kind of book -- the kind that helps you to be much more productive within a few minutes of casual reading.

Most general-purpose .NET programming books only cover the bare essentials of what you need to know about Visual Studio .NET 2003/2005 in order to complete the programming task at hand.

This book picks up where those books leave off, and pays for itself within the first 5 minutes of reading due to resultant productivity gains within Visual Studio .NET 2003/2005.

For newcomers to Visual Studio .NET, this book is highly recommended. I even recommend it for experts of Visual Studio .NET -- even if you know most of the tips and tricks in this book, there will probably be some that you don't that will by themselves justify the cost of the book. Experts will also inevitably run into someone who is learning Visual Studio .NET, and this is an ideal book to have on hand to lend to such a person.

Summary: Great reference for the IDE
Review: This book is crammed with fantastic tips. I spend alot of time in the IDE, still found a ton of new features I had no idea existed.

This book covers all aspects of using the IDE, and does so in a very organized and easy to navigate manner. It's on my desk now most of the time so I can get to it quickly. It travels very nicely too.

I would highly suggest this book to any .net developer that spends a significant amount of time in vs.net. It is a very good resource.

Summary: Great Book on VS 2005
Review: This is definitely a great book, especially because of all the tips and tricks regarding Visual Studio 2005. There aren't many books out yet on this subject and this one does a great job introducing new features. I also have to commend the author, Minh T. Nguyen, on his EXCELLENT English. As stated in his Afterword, English is his Third Language. He writes better than most that have English as their first language. I couldn't find one mistake, either technical and grammatical, and I'm the best at finding errors in computer-related books. Great job Minh! Looking forward to reading your future books!
