Rating: Summary: A perfect book to begin : C++ programming. Review: Hi! I am student in the University of Texas at Austin majoring in Computer Science. I am using this book for my C++ progamming class. The book starts with simple things and builds up. Each chapter is nicely divided in subsections. Each and every section has an example and the syntax and format is clearly marked in a different color and this pattern has been consistently followed throughout the book. Each chapter has a section named "Part of the Picture:" which focuses on the application part. This gives me a broader picture about its use and forces me to use C++ in problem solving. Each section has many quick quizes, programming problems which tests my understanding. The authors have consistently followed Object Centered Design and reusable code. One of the authors has included his website where most of the examples are available for many platforms. Students can easily download them and can run them to get a clear picture without wasting time keying into an editor and then compiling it.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT book for new C++ programmers! Review: I am a student at Texas A&M University - Kingsville. I have experienced this book to be quite easy to follow. It also goes through each of the steps in the programs and explains as to how and why a particular statement was written. It made it easier for me to understand some fundamental principles of C++. Also, this book made C++ seem a lot simpler than what a beginner normally expects. I must add that even though this book may have all the essentials provided in a very organized way, it is up to you (the reader) to read and understand it.
Rating: Summary: Amazing, excellent, a great effort indeed. Review: I am an electrical engineer. I tried many books to learn & understand C++. There is a lot of 24hrs,21 days & unleashed stuff out there but this book is amazing. The best thing about this book is its approach towards computing, how it builds up. When you start reading from cover to cover, everything is the basis of next thing to come. First i was amazed seeing its sequence of topics, as compared to other books on the subject it was completely different and now i know why. Most of the books on C++ usually have classes and advanced topics very early (that's why people complain C++ is complex); but this book gives you a very solid foundation to understand these topics. I never thought C++ was so easy.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I have the older version, though. The best C++ book I've ever used.

Rating: Summary: Great book for beginners Review: I was recommended to buy this book when I was doing first course on C++. First time I saw it, I didn't really like it because it looked just like other books on shelves. If you look closely what this book provides, you'll see how worthwhile it is. C++ is huge and it is impossible to learn all of it in one book, however this book does provide most fundamental features of C++ that beginners need to know. Also, the book is not just how to program C++ but it covers good programming pactice and some ideas beyond how to programOne thing most readers should point out is the presentation of the book is really poor. The authors use too many different background and font colours in one page. This is really annoying. If you are a biginner and you don't care about this, it's good investment to buy this book.
Rating: Summary: Fast and easy learning Review: Is there a word for the greatness of this book? Ah, yes,
it's: oh my god this book is so easy to understand it's flipping unbelievable and I can't believe how fast i learned c++ from just one book!
I searched the internet for sites, and book refrences to find out how to get started programming in c++. I always had the question of where do I start? well this is it.
buy this book, especially because it is like 5 bucks used, and used books are more than likely in 9.0 condition (on a 10.0 scale) like mine was. Spend 5 bucks for this book, it is the most intellectual piece of programming literature you'll ever set your hands on.
There are plenty of examples and quizzes (not like school at all! it's not boring!) and if u want to learn how to program in c++ then this book will amaze you.
Thanks amazon, omfg I love you

Rating: Summary: Great Beginer and Intermediet Book on C++ Review: This book is one of the few C++ books that I have read and been able to accomplish things with. The text is clearly written with examples that back up nearly all of the statements. It is an introduction so it does have some foreshadowing to advanced techniques that they don't completely explain, but I am sure the sequel (as they mention) will be just as good! I am new to object oriented programming and design. This text starts you off with a sure fire method of writing a precise algorithm with the use of object centered design (OCD). There are several examples of the OCD style. Nearly every chapter begins with a OCD document and an example of what you are going to learn. I really liked this a lot because I could always refer to the beginning of the chapter to note syntax. This book is excellent for a beginning C++ programmer. I HIGHLY suggest getting this book.
