Rating: Summary: Good real world guide to XML Review: This book is clearly outdated now, in terms of the technology it covers and the advancements that have occured since its release. However, if you are struggling with how XML fits into the real world, I have yet to see better examples than the ones provided in this book.
Don't expect a lot of technical guidance. The focus is really more on introducing XML to the common person. The writing style is informal, and really geared to a broad audience. This book is still a good complement to some of the more current technical guides.
Rating: Summary: Excellent overview of XML using Microsoft technologies Review: This book was readable with clear cut examples. I found this book useful to expand upon my current knowledge of XML, but I would recommend it for anyone who is getting started in XML and developing applications using Microsoft tools. I liked how the author treated each subject area - and the book layout highlights notes and terms/definitions, which are useful when you want to go back and use the book as a reference. This is not an in depth treatment of all the topics, like XSL, DTD, DSO, IE5, DOM, etc., but it covers them with enough information for the reader to get up and running with these subjects.
Rating: Summary: Recommended! Review: This is an exciting book about an exciting language. Mr. Pardi covers just the right technologies, and has clear examples of them. Immediately after reading the book, you'll be able to start using XML productively. (Though if you're like me, you'll spend the first few days getting aquainted with how to debug XSL. ;-)
