Rating: Summary: Good book Review: Securing Windows NT/2000: From Policies to Firewalls is a good place to start for those looking to harden their Windwos NT/2000 boxes. While not written specifically for FireWall-1, Securing Windows NT/2000: From Policies to Firewalls spends about half of its pages on how to use Firewall-1 to secure a Windows server. Simonyi uses FireWall-1 and VPN-1 as examples on how to take the abstract concept of security policy and put them into tangible use. While Essential Checkpoint Firewall-1 goes into nearly every nook and cranny of the product, Securing Windows NT/2000: From Policies to Firewalls stays at a much higher level. For those that will not be as day to day hands-on with FireWall-1, Securing Windows NT/2000 will provide them with the majority of the information that they need to know. The first 7 chapter of the book details various parts of information security architecture, from policies, firewall architectures, VPN's and more. Chapter 8 (nearly 100 pages) goes into the pre-planning stages of a FireWall-1 installation. From gathering hardware, documentation, installation and more. For those that need a good book integrating both security and FireWall-1, Securing Windows NT/2000: From Policies to Firewalls is a good title to get.
