Summary: Great So Far!
Review: Although I didn't buy this book from Amazon, I thought I'd post some of my early thoughts about this book... So far, the book is absolutely fantastic. I am a newbie to the C++ programming language, and I know how hard it is to learn the language. But in this book, I can understand all of the different terms in C++. The book is laid out in a pleasing and easy to read manner, and many examples are given to further my skills. The programs so far are entertaining and fun. My favorite so far depicts an athlete named Sal doing some aerobic exercises! It is a must read for all newbies to C++!! The only problem that I think others might have with the book (although I don't think it's a problem, it actually may save you money), is that there is no CD included in the book. But rest assured, you can download it off of their website, source code and all.

Summary: This is generally a bad book
Review: I had the experience of reviewing this book for use in my High School's Programming II class. We decided to dispose of all 30 copies that were bought before anyone knew any better and go with C - How to Program. This book is bad in the fact that it demostrates concepts well out of the range of a beginners level. Starting on the first few chapters they jump into graphical programming. This gives novices unreal expectations of themself as they are only modifying the author's code. A real no experience programming book should explain the concepts of programming and how everything works from the ground up. Looking at the tiny details of preconstructed code is bad. I suggest you pick up another book.

Summary: A great book in a Sea of Garbage
Review: I have been studying programming for about two years part time. This book, while written for the new programmer, gave me a solid foundation in understanding Object Oriented Programming in C++. It is true as stated by other readers that the code examples in the book are useless, but they miss the point that the objects in "franca.h" are an example of how objects work, and what you will be doing with C++ as you become a serious programmer. I am now learning the Microsoft Foundation Classes with a solid understanding of how the objects work. Paulo Franca, thank you for a great book.

Summary: LAME DUCK of a book
Review: This book is a DEFINATE WASTE OF TIME for anyone with even a shred of programming experience. For the absolute newbie, perhaps they will get some good programming concepts explained to them, but forget about learning anything specific to C++. For example, the concept of pointers is only semi-introduced in the last dying pages of the book. I think it's a fraud that the name 'C++' appears in the title.

Summary: PERFECT
Review: This book teaches you C++ programing in a way of showing you all the commands you can do in the language and practice them on the authers file. This book is for BEGGINERS that have no idea at all what is programing.

Summary: Excellent for beginners
Review: this is the worst computer book I have ever read. They don't teach you anything at all. All they do is tell you to type in code that they created, and don't tell you what to do. Then they say that they have additional code on their website. It's hard to find the code. And once you get the code, it doesn't work. This is the worst book ever. Please do not waste your money on it. Even the "For Dummies" books are better. It only has one chapter that teaches you how to program in C++ w/o using their code... and they don't teach you much at all. Don't waste your time or money.
