Product Info Reviews

Description:

Windows 98 Made Easy begins with a visual tour of the operating system's offerings, clarifying everything from individual applications to the Network Neighborhood. The authors explain that this show-and-tell is "a good chapter to read if you are on a flight or taking a commuter train to work." After providing this useful overview, Sheldon and Logan launch into the more hands-on learning approach that frames the rest of the book.

Even though the book does make easy the exploration of Windows 98, it is not strictly a beginner's guide. Instead it's better suited for a user who feels comfortable with the Windows operating system but wants numbered instructions (complete with screen shots) on how to get specific tasks accomplished. An example of the range of topics Windows 98 Made Easy addresses can be found within the section on Internet Explorer. The authors not only discuss basic Web browsing but also describe multimedia options, security features, and Web-page publishing with FrontPage Express. For a user familiar with Windows but wanting a slightly more in-depth read, Windows 98 Made Easy will serve as both tutorial and, later, reference guide. --Jennifer Buckendorff
