Description:
Wyatt opens this book much like a user guide, explaining the purpose of the Taskbar and detailing such pedestrian tasks as moving and copying files. He quickly moves on to more advanced issues, such as installing input and output devices. The majority of Windows NT Workstation 4.0 Bible, however, is devoted to really hard-core geek stuff. Wyatt gives a clear, if cursory, explanation of the Windows NT Registry. He also delves into advanced data-protection schemes, including RAID-array data striping. Network communications, both hard-wired and dial-up, get excellent treatment. Windows NT Workstation 4.0 Bible wraps up with a section on security that includes an in-depth discussion of how (both technically and philosophically) to assign rights. The bundled CD-ROM, which is packed with toys, includes everything from a grep-like search-and-replace program with a graphical interface to cool games. Windows NT Workstation 4.0 Bible is an excellent guide for NT power users. It's especially well-suited to those coming from older versions of NT who aren't familiar with the Windows 95 interface.
