Summary: An excellent book - Hats off
Review: I am an experienced Oracle user but this book taught me quite a few tips and pitfalls while using Oracle with Windows NT. It starts with some basic yet important topics that are usually ignored by people and progressively goes deeper into the topic. Unlike other books it does not jump from a basic to advanced topic but gradually leads the reader. It covers a wide array of material in-depth and caters to all levels of Oracle users.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Extremely valuable information
Review: I am new to Oracle and am planning to use it with Windows NT. This book helped me a lot in understanding how to use Oracle on Windows NT. I liked very much the focus on Windows NT and the important Windows NT details discussed in this book. The only book you need to use Oracle with Windows NT.

Summary: The worst and useless oracle book that I have ever owned!
Review: It can't even help me in setting up a useful Oracle 8i in my system. I have managed to setup the Oracle 8i on my system and able to interact with it with the help of the following Oracle8 for Dummies and Oracel8i for Dummies. The dummies' explanations are much clearer and more organized. At the end, I have donated this book to the charity.

Summary: Not a good book when coming from MS SQL Server
Review: Sadly I found this book to be next to useless. Learn Oracle in 24 hours, HAH. First of all, this book wastes more time talking about NT than it does about actually installing Oracle and connecting clients. In fact it provides only an explanation of the GUI install wizard and only a beta at that. By the way everything explained here is available in the Oracle documentation. If you install Oracle according to this book don't plan on using the client from which to work. If you get lucky you will connect, if not this book provides no help. As a matter of fact I have found very little information on Net8 connections in any book. Well I could go on, but don't waste your money if you are new to Oracle.

Summary: Load of rubbish
Review: Surprisingly the flaws are on the Oracle side and not NT. The NT side of the book is solid and if you are learning Oracle on a NT box this is a great help; on the other hand, there are Oracle errors BUT no worries, if you check the Tables you will easily find them even IF you have no Oracle experience. I like the 24 hour series and this book is no exception, I just it had been better checked; but on the other hand, at this price, a few flaws seem petty to point out.

Summary: Not a good book when coming from MS SQL Server
Review: The 5-star reviews are wrong. This is not a good book. There are no useful examples. The installation information is non-informative. All screen shots are from Oracle 8.1.3 Beta. Coming from an SQL Server background, this book was a waste of $30. Unfortunately, I don't have a suggestion for a better book.

Summary: This book was a complete waste of my money
Review: This book is very good value. Easy to read and understand and gives a lot of information to jumpstart using Oracle on Windows NT. A number of useful tricks are provided on how to use Windows NT effectively. Lot of good examples.

Summary: Best book about Oracle/NT
Review: This is the best book that I have read about using Oracle with Windows NT. I especially liked the "tuning" portions of the book. Megh does a wonderful job of explaining the interaction between Oracle and Windows NT. I have already used the tuning tips provided in the book in two of my projects so far and have obtained significant performance gains. Thank you Megh!
