Summary: Great book and great price for beginners
Review: Although not the most detailed, this book I felt did its job. It gave me a solid foundation in the basics of JavaScript and in a very short time. I recommend supplementing this book with a more advanced JavaScript book like O'Reilly's "JavaScript: The Definitive Guide".

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: An okay book for beginners to programming.
Review: I come from a strong VB/VBScript background and wanted to find a book that would go over the basics of Javascript quickly. I found the first 8 "hours" to be a bit of a waste. The book did not even mention objects until hour nine. I went through the first third of the book in about three hours. I'm now shopping for a better reference book.

However, if you have little or no programming experience this might be a good choice. I have not yet found any errors (although I'm sure at least one exists) and the book is overall well organized. The only issue that might be a problem would be a lack of code samples.

Also, if you don't know any HTML that could also be a problem. The book doesn't go into that at all.

Summary: OK for those who have programming knowledge
Review: I think the book lacks in-depth syntax explanations. I finished the book not knowing how to approach a custom script, and felt it could have concentrated more on the syntax end.

Summary: Newbie-it helped
Review: Its not the greatest book, but i'm a newbie so what do i know? They assume you know something about programming, or atleast they don't go indepth into some of the basic programming ideas.

It wasn't a total waste i still got alot out of it, but i hope to find a better book

Summary: Not many good points.
Review: Or should i say that there are many bad points.

1. Not a great place for beginers.
2. Not a great place for advanced users (or those with moderate javascript knowledge).

I've had this book, as well as 2 others. This one is on the shelf and the other 2 are open on my desk. That should be enough to tell you something about it.

The whole idea that you'll learn the language in 24 "classes" of 1 hour is dumb. But they have a "line" of books they want to sell, so that's what they need to do.

Summary: Good for beginers, needs a complementary reference book
Review: Overall the book was a good primer. It was very well written. I recomend it as a primer, just to get you exposed to the subject or to prepare you for a real training seminar. If you get this book, you will needs a good reference book to complement the lack of details or in-depth coverage of the book. With regards to the subjects, it really uses 15 hours wisely. It was lite on the "flow control" section, and it needed more examples about forms, and advance form validation. It's a shame that it was not able to pack more of a punch, since it had 24 hours to deliver a hit.

Summary: OK for those who have programming knowledge
Review: This book is a good tool for people who want to delve into Javascript and have little or no programming experience. For those that are familiar with any type of high level language I would recommend a different text. The book needs an appendix with a reference for Javascript and the last two chapters have to be revamped. I found the last two chapters to be more of a "this is what you can do with javascript" instead of a lesson.

Summary: Great for learning and novice programmers
Review: This book is excellent for introducing the reader to JavaScript. It starts off by explaning some of the differences between Java and JavaScript, along with the origins. The first two parts (or sections) of the book are really spent introducing the user to JavaScript and definately should be read by beginners.

The book is divided into 24 quick 1 hour segments, which is perfect for intermediate to advanced programmers as they can skip ahead to the sections that really talk about using JavaScript. But this book will be most appealing to those still new to developing web sites and are wanting to add in JavaScript functions. The examples are good and demonstrate how you can go about achieving want you want JavaScript to do.

Ultimately you should get this book if you are new to JavaScript and need to learn it fairly quickly. However, you will probably want to pick up a more detailed book later on as a reference guide if you plan on doing much coding in JavaScript.

Summary: Ron Montgomery
Review: This book is not a good book for a beginner. The book is riddled with errors which you have to use the authors website to find the errors..but there are more errors that I found that the authors website doesn't have listed. Topics are not covered enough for beginners. I would look for another book if you're a beginner. Its obvious that quality control on this book is lacking.

Summary: Very concise, clear and easy to follow...
Review: This book was great and I feel can be used by people with know programing skills to add some dynamic effects to there web site plus get a little understanding of programming. Most of the examples(95%) and the material leading up to the examples were wonderful and easy to follow. Like I said this is a great book and should be bought by anyone trying to become a web Developer or just wants to be creative.
