Description:
Windows NT 4.0 MCSE Study Guide does a great job of preparing the reader for three of the four mandatory exams you must pass in order to become a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). This book represents a decent value for those attempting to earn their MCSE on a budget. The guide focuses on the three MCSE exams that have to do directly with Windows NT: Windows NT Workstation 4.0 (exam 70-073), Windows NT Server 4.0 (exam 70-067), and, hardest of all, Windows NT Server 4.0 in the Enterprise (exam 70-068). Interestingly, this book is not broken down by exam. Rather than prep the reader for each of the three exams separately, Carter takes a holistic approach to all things NT, explaining how things work in an integrated way. Sure, he appears to cover all the topics contained in the exams, but you can't turn to, say, the Enterprise section to see what you need to know for that exam. This holistic approach probably is good for long-term retention of knowledge and for deep understanding of material, but it's unclear how well this will work for actual exam preparation. You may want to use this book as a long-term study guide and supplement it with a test-oriented "cram" outline as the test date approaches.
