Product Info Reviews

Description:

Newcomers to the online world usually figure out the mechanics of surfing and e-mail pretty quickly, but file downloads can remain confounding for some time. Newbies who want to pick files from the online orchard need to know what a Zip file is and how to use one. WinZip for Beginners answers their questions, explaining how to get WinZip, how to install it, and how to use it to compress and extract files. This is a real service, because WinZip, even with its new wizard-based interface, isn't terribly intuitive.

Author Brian Howard documents WinZip 6.3 fully, explaining the purpose of every button, check box, radio button, and selection list. He organizes his documentation by task, with chapters devoted to key WinZip procedures, such as creating new Zip files, adding files to existing Zip files, and extracting and creating self-extracting Zip files. He wraps up with a discussion of disk spanning, a supremely useful feature that enables you to use more than one removable disk to hold a single large Zip file.

WinZip for Beginners comes complete with a copy of WinZip's evaluation edition on its companion CD-ROM and explains how to use WinZip in an easy-to-follow graphical format. In fact, following the book's procedures is similar to reading a comic strip; big arrows show sequences in which windows appear and leave little doubt about what happens and when.

This is an excellent explanatory text that will prove useful for those who are unclear on how to use WinZip.
