Summary: Excellent book
Review: An excellent book to accompany your Paint Shop Pro software. This book gives visual examples which makes it easy to learn Paint Shop Pro without frustration. It shows each step with a dialog box and hints. There are color illustrations in the center of the book to see what a finished graphic will look like. I'm a novice and started doing complicated layers and effects in a few days because of this book.

Summary: A QUITE REMARKABLE PIECE OF WORK
Review: As the world's greatest 'Non Artist', any graphical book would have to be extremely good to teach me. This is just such a book.

Assuming very little knowledge of Paint Shop, the first part of the book starts at the very basics by going through each of the available tools contained in PSP.

Using a semi-tutorial / semi-information session approach, you will soon find yourself familiar with everything from drawing lines & typing text through masks, tubes & layers. (You will even learn Animation Shop!)

The second part of the book contains many different projects for you to try. Each project revises & builds on the material taught in the first part of the book. They are quite involved; but easy to follow.

By the end of the book, you will feel an accomplished paint shop pro user ~ without having been pushed too far during the learning experience.

Nothing is perfect, however, & this book has a minor flaw. Both parts of the book rely upon you having to hand a collection of images to work with. While this may at first not seem to be much of a problem, you may find that certain functions within PSP won't work with the exercies due to incorrect colour depth etc. Again, while this is fairly easy to sort, unless you know what's wrong, you may get frustrated.

To solve the problem, it would have been good if the authors could have provided a set of images on a CD-Rom. Perhaps some starting images along with 'answers' to each project.

In summary, an easily readable yet thorough book which everyone from Picasso down to me will benefit from. It's great value as well.

Summary: Very Good, Very Helpful But Visuals Could Have Been Larger
Review: I am an artist and tend to learn art things quickly. However, I am a very slow learner of anything to do with computers. I now know how to do a lot on Paint Shop Pro from reading this book. I need to just keep studying with the book while at the computer screen. My only real complaint is that the visuals on each page of the book need to be larger. I am more used to stand-out visuals in the computer books which say they are visual learning books. If the size were increased on the visuals, this book could well move up to a 5 star rating.

Summary: Excellent learning tool
Review: I loved everything about this book. The language, the graphics, the projects, the pace. As a computer junkie, I read lots of technical books, and this is one of the my favorites.

Summary: Wonderful...
Review: Once I got Paint Shop Pro 6, I was excited but a bit frightened about the complexity of the program. My previous artistic/graphics experience consisited of art class in high school. I didn't know what a mask or a raster layer (or much else) was. Visual Insight explained everything I needed in simple terms with appropriate illustrations. It is a great book for beginners. The projects at the second half of the book helped me to see what this program is capable of. After going through this book, I am now able to create the graphics that I need.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Inspiring & easy to understand
Review: Once you get through some of the useful techniques in this book you will find yourself inspired to do more. Although the photos could have been more in depth I found this book to be very helpful, especially when working with layered images. I enjoy making my own custom frames now and often refer to this book from time to time when I want to try something new. It's an excellent learning tool that I am glad I purchased.
