Summary: Really great indtroduction - intermediate book.
Review: Excellent book - nice breakdown of how to use ASP - great real world examples toward the end of the book. The only thing lacking is more explanation of how best to use include files, global.asa, scriptlets, etc.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: An excellent book to start with.
Review: I hate technical books like this but I was impressed after the first couple of chapters. In plain, simple English, you are walked through the architecture and set up of ASP and the environment in which to run it. The modules are well thought out and easy-to-follow. You don't get lost.

If you already have some ASP experience, then this book will probably be a little basic. for someone like me who needed to do some form-submissions using email and page counters, the book is ideal. I was up and running in a couple of hours (you can skip bits).

My only complaint is with troubleshooting. The writers tell you what results to expect which is good, but they don't tell you what to do if you don't get the results you expect. This is particularly the case with the database modules where I had some problems writing to a database and I had followed the instructions to the letter.

However, an overall good starter book and I recommend it thoroughly.

Summary: Perfect for a short-of-time type of guy!
Review: This book concentrates on the common day-to-day issues that programmers face when writing ASP pages. If you are not an accomplished ASP programmer, and need to quickly learn the essentials and deliver a product in a short time, then this book will come in handy, especially at times when you get stuck on a specific problem while in the midst of writing the code. I have been through such situations and have had a good hit-rate coming out successful with this book by my side.

Summary: Good start, but leaves you wanting more
Review: This book does a fine job of introducing ASP, and showing you how to accomplish specific tasks. I had no previous experience writing ASP, and within a few days I was creating form handlers, sending email, and even had created a simple database app. But after finishing, I felt as though I still didn't really KNOW asp. I had merely followed the books examples, and improvised. And while I was happy to be able to do some neat things so quickly, I felt like I needed more. So, if you're looking for a quick, easy intro to ASP, and you want to get busy right away doing some basic stuff, this book should serve you well. But you want to really learn the nuts and bolts of how ASP works, and be able to create involved code completely on your own, you may want to look elsewhere. Suggestion: Beginning ASP Databases by Kaufman has had excellent reviews. I'm in to it a bit already, and it appears to be much more thorough, but it does assume some previous knowledge. Happy coding!

Summary: Actually, quite nice.
Review: This book keeps the pace with ASP, but you're going to want ASP.net instead.
