Summary: Where has this book been the last three years!!!
Review: I have been looking for a book on X.400 and SMTP for years. I don't know where this one has been hiding but am I glad I found it!

It describes everything I wanted to know about the two approaches without going into unnecessary detail.

If you are working with an e-mail system (like Exchange) that uses both connection types this book is for you.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Good theory
Review: Like other review says, this book is very much theory. For practise you must read the new book from john rhoton.

Summary: Explains the foundation of internet email
Review: My interest in buying this book was to get a better understanding of Internet email systems. X.400 is obsolete if it ever lived at all. What amazed me is how the development of X.400 and SMTP went hand in hand. Or put another way how SMTP and the other mail protocols are modeled on X.400.

This book gave me a greater appreciation for the work that went into designing today's email systems. Anyone who wants to consider themselves an email expert needs to understand the heritage to fully understand why email is the way it is.
