Rating: Summary: Clear, Concise, Funny, Helpful and other adjectives Review: A computer nerd I am not but when I found this book and read a few of the words I came to have a much better understanding of my desk top computer and what to do when I have a problem. Easy reading and presented in a great humorous way. If you don't have this book for your computer rush out right now to the nearest bookstore or better yet order it direct from Amazon.com. Your dollars will be well spent and you can show off your technical skills to friends and family.
Rating: Summary: GET THIS BOOK!!! Review: I dont know a thing about computers. When my mac went down, i grabbed the geeks guide off my shelf (my mom had bought it the week before) and believe it or not, i found the problem, and the book told me how to fix it, saving me a hefty bill to get it repaired. This is probably the first computer book i have read that is actually useful! Well done the Geek Squad
Rating: Summary: Waste of money Review: I find that I waste my money on this book. Too simple for real problems. Is this just a silly way of finding something to do besides fix easy computer problems for nieve users? This is not what I bought this book for. I would like my money back!
Rating: Summary: Guide to solving any computer glitch Review: I found this book excellent for the novice computer geek. The book explains the possible senarios and then tells you various ways to fix it.The book covers everything from Monitors to Hard Drives and is multi platform. (PC and MAC)
Rating: Summary: Geek Squad is a HOAX Review: I saw that Geek Squad car running around town here in Mpls., so when I had a problem with my laptop, I thought I would give them a call. Well, three visits later, my laptop is still broken but I'm a couple hundred bucks poorer. I hope the guys who wrote the book aren't the guys who actually come out and do the work, because the technicians they sent didn't seem to know much more than what was in the manual already. This "Geek Squad" seems to be a lot of marketing hype with very little value to back it up.
Rating: Summary: Geek Squad is a HOAX Review: This book is for the Fair Weather Mechanic type, that is, the sort who can but usually doesn't change his or her own oil and who is reluctant to take the car to the a mechanic for a problem that is "probably" minor. YOU could fix it yourself if you just knew a little more about auto mechanics, or PCs or whatever. So, get a book! In other words, this is a good primer, the equivalent to a glove box auto care guide, suitable for the semi-mechanically inclined, competent and confident to do basic trouble-shooting for herself. But THAT'S ALL. Take even a "simple" problem like "read-write" errors when trying to save to a perfectly fine floppy. Covered? Maybe, but I may never know because the index is also very basic. BIGGEST TICK: IF I had seen this book before buying it, I would have put it back down, hard. What right have Stephens et al to waste pages and therefore my money on poetry -- and lamentably lame poetry at that? What sort of deal did they cut with this Martha Rose Reeves? I shudder to think and will wax prosaically no longer. Good bye Geek Squad.
