Summary: Excellent Web Site for Errata, Support
Review: I made a minor error in an SQL query for one of the exercises and I simply couldn't find it. Remembering that the publisher has a Web site, I looked there, finding an entry for each of the publisher's titles. There are a few items for this book too, but nothing about my problem. So I e-mailed a description with my code. Within 24 hours I had a courteous reply, locating the mistake and correcting it. I've never had that kind of support from a publisher, and still marvel over it. The bad news isn't much by comparison, but these are the things which would improve the book in my opinion: 1. Provide a CD so the user doesn't have to type in all the exercise code (sometimes two or three pages long.). 2. Explain every code convention as it is introduced. Little things like "App", "Len", and "Right$" stopped me cold. 3. Don't limit coverage to the Learning Edition. The Professional Edition is more powerful, and costs only a little more.

Over all, I'm glad to recommend this text for Visual Basic beginners..

Summary: A great book.
Review: No doubt this book has some good stuff in it, but I didn't use it for my core VB learning. I didn't like the flow of the material, and found that I was left stumped at several points. I also found the book not very usefull as a reference if you are trying to find something or refresh your memory. I also found Peter's writing style an inhibitor to my learning experience. It just left me confused sometimes.

I did find some good code examples and used some of the class examples in a project that I was working on. A companion CD is a must for this kind of book, but is not provided.

Overall, this is a good book to have in your VB library, but don't rely on this one alone to learn VB.

Summary: A great book.
Review: This is a great book for beginners. I found Peter Wright's easy going style of writing to be refreshing. This book covers a bit more ground than most "beginner books" therefore you will gain a solid understanding of the language.

Summary: The best introductory book for VB
Review: This is the perfect book for self-study and for anyone interested in learning vb with little or no programming experience. The author introduces us to the fundamental concepts of vb and hand guide us to implementing useful vb applications without overwhelming readers with too much information at one time. each concept, each section is written with extreme clarity and gently eases readers to the world of vb. by the end of the book, readers are ready to creating powerful vb applications with a solid understanding of the vb language.Beginning Visual Basic 5 is without a doubt, *the* best introductory book to learning vb. you might want to get Core Visual Basic 5 as your second book for more advanced coverage. good luck!
