Summary: Best Absolute Beginners Guide to HTML
Review: Dick Oliver presents us with nothing but practical information on HTML in his book, "Sams Teach Yourself Html 4 in 24 Hours." He starts the book out with an introduction to HTML, what it stands for and how one uses it. Then, he moves on to basic manipulation techniques of words and characters within webpages, such as techniques on how to give a word or phrase a boldface type and how to change the font color of a word or phrase.

Oliver goes into details with the more advanced techniques of HTML, such as using frames, tables, and layers. He also touches on a good deal of Javascript. Within 24 hours, a good reader and student should be able to learn everything they need to know on making webpages and websites by hand. Although software, such as, Microsoft Frontpage, makes it possible for you to design good webpages without knowing the basics of HTML, you would feel prouder knowing that you understand the coding that these website building software produce....to go along with this book.

Summary: Great for novice and experienced user alike
Review: Even if you've never programmed a line of code in your life, you'll code a web page easily after reading this book -- actually, you won't even need to read it all to get started!

The book is easy to read, divided into simple chapters and has plenty of online references, helpful tips and a terrific Quick Reference to nearly all HTML and XMTL tags. (But I wish it were in alphabetical order.)

For the experienced user, Sams has it all in this one book, including deprecated style, what to look for in future versions, dynamic web pages, ad infinitum. Buy this book -- you will not be disappointed!

Summary: Perfect for all levels
Review: Even though this is out of print now, buy it if you can find it. I took a class on web design a couple of years ago, but had little direction. I picked up this book and taught myself how to create whole websites very rapidly and aced the class. It goes over the very basics for someone just starting, as well as covering many tips for advanced users. You can learn how to make web forms for visitors to fill out, how to have music play on your site, and how to make buttons light up when the cursor is on it. Very awesome book. I am now being hired to design websites for other people. ...

Summary: Best HTML book for everyone
Review: I read this book a few years ago when I knew nothing of HTML and it was an amazing experience. I read this book in the car on a 14 hour trip and on that 14th hour, I was already an intermediate HTML programmer. The book is broken down into 24 chapters that are each very detailed and smooth. Reading this book was almost like watching a good movie. After every chapter, I found myself wanting more. It was very hard to put this book down because it was exactly what I needed. My goal was to understand the concepts of HTML and to make very good and detailed websites. This book does it all. After I read this book, I immediately pulled up a plain text file and started typing in some code. Within a few minutes, I already had a full-blown webpage with images, tables,a centered header, and even an e-mail form (that did not include any CGI). After every chapter there are questions and answers about everything that was discussed. That helped me understand everything more and kept me from getting lost. In conclusion, if you want to be on your way with making awesome websites, this book is worth the price and worth 24 hours of your time.

Summary: The one and only Basic HTML Book
Review: I searched high and low, paid gazillions of dollars on books and courses, they are all tough, expensive and difficult. Sams Teach Yourself Html 4 in 24 Hours is the best book I found.
It's easy to understand, gets you everywhere you want in HTML, gives you a free loaded practice web site, and it's inexpensive. The author has done a superb job.
If you are already acquainted with HTML and want to delve into it deeper, I would not recommend this book. If you're just about to learn html, get this book! You don't need anything else, trust me, it's the best!

Summary: Move Beyond Web Building Software
Review: I started creating web pages over a year ago with a web building software package. It seemed great until I wanted to expand my page and add new things. The software made it frustrating so I looked into HTML books and bought Sams Teach Yourself HTML4 in 24 hours. Now I am creating 99% of my webpages in HTML code that I write myself (No special software needed)and have total control on what I see and where it is placed. I am about to take an Advanced Web Page Course for a certificate and Sams Teach Yourself HTML4 covers everything needed for this ... course and more! This book is a must for anyone who wants to learn HTML who has No Experience with HTML and Web Design to start with!

Summary: Good beginner book.
Review: Pro's: Good for the person who has not touched HTML at all, but has the ability to learn outside the classroom. Explains things in very basic, easy to understand terms. Covers a wide array of topics.

Cons: Examples are quite basic. All web pages that you write are almost too basic in structure. The student will leave with a good conceptual knowledge of HTML, but not a good working knowledge. The book assumes some knowledge of graphics, but quickly glances over it. You might need Sams TY Photoshop5.5 in 24 hours for more.

From here: You need some desire to start creating web pages if you want to turn your knowledge into working talent. Also pick up a copy of a HTML refrence...like The Complete refrence, HTML second edition, Powell/ Osborn. When you have to create many pages...you'll need much more than the STYHTMLin 24 has to offer.

Summary: All You Need
Review: This book has ALL you need to learn HTML.

It goes step by step on how to create pages, when and how to use tags. There is probably no other book better than this to learn HTML. From the first webpage to creating forms to advanced table creating techniques, this book is filled with the basics of HTML coding.

If you are planning on doing web design or web programming, knowing HTML is a must. Without it, you wouldn't have any idea on where to go and what is being done.

This book is simply one of the best buys out there. For the list price that's mentioned, how could you go wrong? I wish I could say more but this book is ALL you really need.

Just buy it.
