Rating: Summary: An excellent, very VERY in depth guide. Review: First of all, you should know that I'm only a kid, and every time I buy a new game, my dad naggingly insists that I purchase along with the game a strategy guide. But, as I've come to learn, most of these "strategy" guides present no "strategy" whatsoever, just a reprint of what's in the game's manual, what's on the game's website, what's in the game itself, or the plain and simple obvious concepts that come along with the fact that the game is in fact a game. But verily I write here for your sake that The Sims guide is a glaring exception. The guide literally reveals the internal design of the game's engine (AI engine, that is)! This guide tells you things that you wouldn't be able to induce yourself if you played the game for five years! You will be amazed over and over again at the sheer amount of knowledge about the game's AI that the book contains. In fact, if you have sufficient programming skill, I think it would be safe to say that you could, albeit not without struggle, write your OWN people simulator with the EXACT same AI algorithms used in The Sims' engine (obviously assuming that you either already had all the other assets that you would need or had the skill and talent to make them)! Now, with all these facts in the book, you would think that it would resemble a college textbook, but behold, it doesn't. Not at all. The author(s) have managed to incorporate a very friendly and humurous writing style with an excellent and organized presentation of a large amount of factual data. This book is actually *fun* to read. You may even sit down and read through the book, front to back, even though it's a strategy guide.
So, if you haven't noticed by now, I highly recommend buying this guide, regardless of your experience playing The Sims.
Rating: Summary: Great bargain! Review: For all the vaulable insights included in this book, this is a steal! I tried playing this game without it at first and was only moderately successful. With it, my relationships are better, I got a better job, and just about everything else improved in my game. If it wasn't a stategy guide, you might also find this in the Self-Help/Improvement section of your local bookstore! Definitely recommend if you want to have the best Sim-life!
Rating: Summary: The big help Review: I had this book next to me when I played The Sims and whenever I needed help with something, I turned to he book and I never found what I was looking for.

Rating: Summary: Reducing Your Frustration Level Guaranteed Review: Playing The Sims can be both fun and frustrating. Why can't I get enough food into these people? How exactly do personality traits like being playful and being active affect moods, job performance, and social skills? Why is it really important to get a food processor? The book explains everything that the manual neglects. Did you know that each job has ten position levels? This guide shows you every level, the pay scales, and the needed requirements to progress from one position to the next. You are given much information on the results of almost every activity that the Sims indulge in. What effect does bragging have on building a social relationship? How do diagonal walls affect room scores? How can you get rid of Sims that you don't want? One technique is to have the tiresome Sim go swimming. When he/she is in the pool remove the pool ladder. When the Sim runs out of energy he/she will drown. Having read this guide I am now a calm, assured leader of my Sim population. I am sure that my Sim family is grateful for my improved skills - except when I drown one of them in the swimming pool. This is not one of those padded, useless guides that often accompany computer games. To me it's a must buy.
Rating: Summary: A great aid for the Sims Review: Prima's official strategy guide offers a lot of insights in playing the Sims game. Picking up right where the game book leaves off, this guide adds onto the game playing strategy without overlapping. There are codes to help with certain tasks, full breakdowns of the careers, match-ups of personalities, details on how each item effects the Sims overall attributes, etc. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Easy to follow book with tons of info. Review: This book is really very helpful! It tells what those little thought bubbles mean, what the Sims are chatting about, what will make them mad, who gets along with who, etc. Also a great career guide and what skills you need to achive them. There is too much info in the book to go over here, but it was definetly worth the money. Nice lay out, although only b&w pictures.
Rating: Summary: Great Book to have Even if you are an expert! Review: When I first bought the sims (LIke the review below mine) I killed my family, got my child taken off to military school, got robbed and many other things. I was not aware there was a strategy guide until one day in Best Buy I was looking for another game, and i saw THE SIMS: Prima' Official Strategy Guide. I was likw woah. I picked it up and skimmed through it. BOY! What was I doing playong without this. It had every little detail in there. A Job chart for every level of your sims job, what the little bubbles mean that pop up out of their head, a review and statistics on every item in the game, and just good old startegy. Now i have owned the game for about 1 month and the strategy guide for 2 weeks. One of my families have 2 top jobs (mayor, General) have 1,00,000+ and have lived in their home 1,274 days exactly all with out cheat codes. Abd they are always in a good mood. I would recomend this Manual to anybody that is a little confused, or a lot, an that needs a little help to do better, or to anyone that is great at the game and just needs or wants to see if they are doing everything right. Thank you for your time.
Rating: Summary: A light in the darkness Review: When I first started playing this game, I made a family of eight people. Two kids. I didn't know about fire alarms or cooking skills. Four people (my men) all died. Then the others wouldn't work because they were too depressed. They spent free time wallowing in self-pity, mourning over the tombstones, and getting stuck behind furniture (and I couldn't figure out how to get them out). I played the game for a year, figuring it out pretty basically, still not able to get past the rusted-up carpool car. I knew things got better for some people because I downloaded families that were rich and happy. That didn't last long - I just plain wasn't good at the game. Then, a light in the darkness, was this book! It was totally awesome! Whatever I needed help with was IN THERE. Now I've got happily married six-people families who are always happy! . Now I only trust maxis-mades, BTW. If you think you're an expert or not, everything really lies in this book.
