Rating: Summary: Fantastic Book; wish author would update it Review: ...Why can't the decisions, rules and controls be mine? Having read this book, I now understand that defaults and standards aren't necessarily the last word. Helpful hints and shortcuts will make life easier for everyone. whether you only ever use word to dash off a letter or you regularly produce complex documants and tables. With a writing style of amiable sarcasm, Woody Leonhard has obviously learned his lessons the hard way. Don't make the same mistake - buy this book!
Rating: Summary: Right on the Money Review: After recently rolling out Office 97 at work, we had torethink the way we operate. If you don't understand what Word isdoing when it messes up your docs, then you will be worse off. This book explains most of the quirks, even if there is no solution. I must open this book every day. The Website and the newsletter are also great resources. Get rid of the useless crap on your toolbar, and add value by putting in the stuff you use. After buying this book, I bought the rest of the Annoyances series. Plus the O'Reilly books are the best-in-class.
Rating: Summary: Must-Have Book Review: Great book about learning Word 97 annoyances. Complete coverage of these annoyances is followed by using VBA/Word as a solution to Word 97 annoyances. Very good introduction to VBA/Word. This book belongs on your bookshelf! My only complaint is that the book should be bigger.
Rating: Summary: Thank you!!!!! Review: I would have given this book 6 stars if you'd let me! The fact that Woody refuses to tout the Microsoft party line and tell things as they really are is the most valuable aspect of this incredibly well-written book. I wish I had found this book two and a half years ago when we left the best word processor (may it rest in peace) for Word, a move which left me more than a little bitter. Woody's tongue-in-cheek, yet straightforward approach to Word's idiosyncracies (or is that IDIOT-syncracies?) was a refreshing breath of fresh air! It's saved my sanity on more than one occasion.
Rating: Summary: Word 97 Explained Review: This book gives a good explanation on Word 97 and how to use it. Ranging from general windows settings to visual basic for applications (VBA) users from almost any level can find useful advise in this book. Written in an enjoyable style it is an easy read for anyone with interest for word 97. Together with Bill Camarda's 'Using Microsoft Word 97' from QUE for reference/addition you should be able to create some fancy documents.
Rating: Summary: Good tour of VBA workarounds Review: This book is not an intro to WORD features, but it manages to introduce many of them nonetheless. It also explains how to use VBA and macros to customize WORD. In addition, it explains a scheme for tracking down what instructions to use to make "fixes" that are very unobvious and (due to MICROSOFT's program) illogical uses of VBA. Many specific examples are provided.
Rating: Summary: The dialog box only goes to 10!?!?!?! Review: Woody Darlin'! I'd like to see you and Bill Gates in a jello sloshing, jungle red nail scratching, kat fight! 'cuz, sista, my money's on you! I was forced by the corporate giants to give up my personal favorite word processor. In it's place, they gave me Bill "We are much smarter than you!" Gates' folly called Word 97. After tangling with miss match page numbers, paragraph alignment that never lined up, and macro viruses... I gave up and got your book. Fabulous book! However, it confirmed everything I ever hated about Word 97. Now I'm using Lotus WordPro 97 and saving everything to DOC format. I'm happily more productive and the corporate weenies never know the difference!
