Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Rehash of available web information Review: The information contained in this book is simply a re-hash of information available on the web. It appears that the author(s) knew nothing about optical networks and just summarized already available information, I was expecting better on a challenging, complex topic. A poor writing and editing job makes the book hard to read. Don't waste your money on a survey of already-available information.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Written from the computer networking perspective Review: Written from the computer networking perspective, Special Edition Using Optical Networks's foundation is laid upon a comparison of the roles of optical networks in telecommunications to other types of networks, theory behind light propagation, and processes of modulation and demodulation of digital signals. First- and second-generation optical networks, including SONET, WDM, OTDM, and CDMA networks, are described with routing techniques and troubleshooting solutions, as are more recent developments such as multiplexing, cross connects, and core optical switching. A full chapter devoted to managing optical networks covers performance, fault, safety, deploying, and troubleshooting for the enterprise manager. User Level: Beginning-Intermediate. 600 pp.
