Rating: Summary: Excellent A+ preparation material Review: Although I have only been using this book for 1 week, I can already see where it will go a long way towards preparing me properly for the A+ exams. An excellent feature of the accompanying CD-ROM with practice tests is it's review feature. After completion and grading of the test, you have the option of reviewing your answers, and by clicking on any of the answers, the page # where the question is addressed in the book pops up. Unfortunately, the page referencing is often a couple of pages off. However, this is just a minor inconvenience. Also, the questions within each practice module remain the same each time you do the test, so if you do the tests often enough you eventually will achieve high scores even though you may have little understanding of the topic. I have used another practice test CD-ROM where the questions change each time you do the test. Nevertheless, as a combination, I would say that this book along with the CD-ROM is well worth the price.
Rating: Summary: A+ Exam Prep-by Jean Andrews Review: Although some of the info is outdated, it's still a highly recommended book for the beginner because it explains complex concepts in simple terms. It gives details, pictures, and simple to follow steps that make it more valuable to me than most other books reference books. Check it out!-at these prices on Amazon what do you have to loose?
Rating: Summary: A+ Exam Prep-by Jean Andrews Review: I bought this book to prepare for the A+ exam and am somewhat disappointed. The book focused too much on older technologies such as DOS and older legacy systems. For example, the chapter on system boards listed the Pentium MMX and the Pentium II 300 as one of the newest chips!!! In Coriolis' defense, the computer industry can be challenging to keep up with. Even though I checked out CompTIA's web site before purchasing, I was disappointed to find that this book will probably not be sufficient to cover the NT and Win 98, and Linux portions of the new tests. The book DOES offer a very solid foundation in the basics and does an excellent job of explaining the basics. Unfortunately I expected little bit more from a book with a Copyright date of 2000. I expect to have to purchase more prep material despite getting this book because it isn't as up-to-date as I would have preferred.
Rating: Summary: MORE THAN CONFUSING TO THE PC NOVICE Review: I found this book to be a great comprehensive study book for the test and also as a good book to keep in your technical library for afterwards. In many areas in went more indepth then required for the test, which I liked, since the goal of getting certified is not to just pass the test, it is to become a expert in the area the book is about. This is crucial for the job market. Anyhow, great book! A+,Network+,MCP
Rating: Summary: Good but missing stuff and outdated Review: I got this book to study for the A+ exams. In the middle of chapter 2 I began realizing that this book is good for reference, good for learning computer history, great for computer history. But lacking in the newer hardware concepts. I have been a tech now for more than 5 years and I recognize everything in the book, but so many new things have poped up in the market. For example the author mentions 32 of Ram to be the highest newest thing, please, that was a few years back. This book should really be updated to make it not only good as a reference or history book, but as a tool
Rating: Summary: Excellent source book for the A+ Certification Review: Review questions and projects presented at the end of each chapter were invaluable training aids. Fairly detailed book that will give you a good working knowledge of all subjects reviewed. I used this book and Mike Meyers A+ book as primary references for the A+ Certification and scored 95% on the core and 91% on the Dos/Windows portions of the exams. This book does cover some items such as Windows NT that are not addressed on the A+ exam.
Rating: Summary: Another vistory for Coriolis in the A+ Arena Review: Right about now your saying I will be ready to take the A+ Exam in two months. You study for 2-70 question tests, you're reading the A+ Exam Prep book by Coriolis and you've got it down cold. Then we find out that the exam is changing and now what do you do? If you're like me, you get a copy of the A+ Exam Prep adaptive edition. CompTIA is changing the A+ Exam to an adaptive format, removing DOS and Windows 3.X, adding NT Workstation, Windows 98, and Linux and this book will get you more than ready for the new format. Over 1,100 pages of text you have been given tables, pictures, diagrams, screen shots, figures, 450+ review questions, projects, hands-on exercises and a practice test, and that's just the book. The book also includes appendices for error messages; hard drive types, troubleshooting guidelines and more. Coriolis also included, not 1 but 2, cd-roms in their latest edition. CD 1 is the practice test questions in fixed length, adaptive, random and review formats. CD 2is a 1-hour audio review with questions and answers that further enhance the material covered in this book. Coriolis you have done it again - right in the nick of time! The review refers to the HARDCOVER edition
Rating: Summary: A+ Exam Prep Review: This book is well written and very informative. I used this book to refresh my knowledge and as a study guide to pass the A+ certification tests. I will also use this book as a reference guide for troubleshooting. Get it, it worth every cent.
Rating: Summary: Good enough to pass both core & dos/win modules... Review: This is the only book I used to prepare for the exams. And I passed it on my first try. Although it has served it's purpose. I suggest that people using it should take the time mapping it out to the "COMPTIA A+ test objectives blueprint". (...especially now that a new version is on the works and will be live soon, or is it already ???) I've taken the time to read the book from cover to cover and it definitely contains information beyond that of the test objectives, making it a good reference material as well.
