Review: How come the geniuses at Microsoft can design great software but cannot tell beginners how to use it? Thank goodness for the SAM series or I would have given up. I bought a number of books but this one was the best for learning for a beginner like me. I had never used a computer before but this book has me doing everything I need to do and then some. I read a lesson a day and found it both easy and fun. Much better than the Dummy books which I find are too busy being funny and unclear on what I want to know. Thank you SAM and Ms. Steele, great book!.

Review: Maybe it's me, but carrying around all those "...for Dummies" books made me feel self-conscious. And I agree that those guides were to preciously cute to be taken serious or, worse, to learn anything from. Heide Steele has put together a no nonsense learning aid which did teach me how to use the Word 2000 software that was getting atrophied on my pc. Although it took me more like 48 hours to finish, I was never prouder of myself once I felt I had tackled Word 2000. I recommend this book for all beginners!

Review: This book succeeds in teaching the basics of Word 2000. Besides showing you the steps, it goes beyond some show-you-how books by telling how the feature or function works and tips. It does not cover some advanced features functions, such as creating or using existing objects as graphics.
