Summary: Superb Introduction to Windows Terminal Server
Review: A customer was demanding that an application be web enabled for them to stay interested. There was not enough time to recode the application so we turned to Terminal Server. We set the app up on Terminal Services running on Windows 2000 Advanced Server (RC-1) since that was already running in our test lab. We ran into a few hitches making it work so bought this book. Even though this book was written for NT it led us through some configuration changes we needed to make to get the app running properly. We satisfied the customer with this work around and everyone involved became fans of this book.

After the project was over I took some time to read through it carefully instead of just looking for solutions. I was very pleased that the material is well written and clearly leads the reader to develop a very sound understanding of Terminal Server and the issues involved in managing and securing applications running in this environment.

To me, a book like this one is supposed to take a generally knowledgeable person from ignorance to basic competence in the specialty area. I had accessed applications over terminal services prior to reading this book but had never managed them. This book quickly gave me the knowledge I needed to feel comfortable administering a Terminal Server.

Summary: Good reference, but needs an update.
Review: Although this is a good reference book, the march of technology has left this book is quite dated. Ted Harwood refers to MetaFrame 1.0 while version 1.8 has been out for quite some time. Citrix will be releasing 2.0 soon after Microsoft releases Terminal Server with Windows 2000 Server on February 17. The brief reference to integration into a Netware environment does not describe the updates that Novell have released to ensure compatibility of NDS for NT TSE and MetaFrame.

Summary: Windows NT Terminal Server and Citrix Metaframe
Review: Great book. Extremely informative. Makes lots of hardcore NT server material readable and understandable. Covers a very large scope of readers. This is not a for dummies only book. This is not a book for techies only. Great book for technically astute systems managers that wants to know what to do with WTS and thin client tecnology.

Summary: WinFrame
Review: I bought and read this book awhile ago. I took it back for a refund because I found it misleading. I needed a book that focused mainly on Terminal Server and MetaFrame. The title said MetaFrame but the content seemed to focus on WinFrame, the little bit of content devoted to MetaFrame was lacking the in depth information I was looking for and did not cover version 1.8. The book was probably good when first published but is getting outdated.

Summary: Windows NT Terminal Server and Citrix Metaframe
Review: I had Metaframe and Terminal Server installed on 2 servers. I bought this book about the time the software was loaded. I recommend buying the book before implementing the project - whether you do it yourself or someone else helps. This is a truly awesome overview with some detail about the products. For the price, you can't go wrong. I highly reommend it.

Summary: Awesome book. Highly recommended
Review: I have barely any experience with Citrix before but this book has brought me from nearly zero knowledge of Citrix to being able to Administer a simple Citrix network.

I took me only 3 days to read this through and absorb all the information. Very well laid out. Definitely get this book if you need basic to intermediate information on Terminal Server / Metaframe.

A++

Summary: WinFrame
Review: My uncle Ted wrote this book. He is really smart with computers so it must be good. I tried to read it but it is too complicated for a 12 year old. I want you to read it and buy it so he can be a millionaire! Thank you! My uncle appreaciates it!

Summary: Ok, but mostly for Terminal Server implementations
Review: The book reads ok, but is quite heavily oriented towards MS NT Terminal Server and seems to neglect the Citrix part of the story so it's actually for the low-end of implementations. It speaks only of Citrix Metaframe 1.0 and therefore no mention of Program Neighborhood. Also, common services like loadbalancing, Resource Management and Unix Integration Services are only summarized or not mentioned at all. It's ok for starters and to get an idea of Windows server-based computing but needs an update.
