Summary: LOTS, and I mean LOTS of mistakes
Review: I'm hired to translate this book, so I am very familiar with its content. Well, I must say that I'm amazed at how this book could be produced by such a big brand publishing house like Sams!

It's simply filled with errors! Want an example? Look at page 140, it says (about the IP address space) that "This makes for a total of 4,294,967,296 IPs. Not so many when you think about it. There are more than four times that many people in China alone" !!!

If you too think that more than 17.2 billions people live in China, go buy this...book.

Summary: This book is just short of the right thing.
Review: If networking is what you are looking to make a career out of, then you need to have a great understanding of TCP/IP and the entire protocol suite. You also need to have a reference manual that will provide this information to you.

This book is just short of the right book. One thing I found was some of the information was a little short of complete and a few typo errors in the book as well. I also found that the book states the level to be intermediate to advanced and I think it is more of the beginner to intermediate.

I found that the book does give a good overall explanation of TCP/IP and that there were some topics like firewalls that cover only about 9 pages and I think the information could have been expanded.

Overall the book does provide good information for the A+, Net+, CCNA and other first level exam certifications. I can also say that this book was great for a TCP/IP seminar I recently gave, but still some improvements are need to make this the go to manual.

Summary: Like others said, it's a good book for newbies but.........
Review: This is a good book for newbies but for the technicly enclined individual that can already explain many of the TCP/IP fundimentals and related protocols. It's really kind of a published version of whatis.com or webopedia making it a good refrence manual, but if you already have a clue and are looking for technicly advanced material then invest the money on 1000 pages elsewhere such as certification orientaded books for network+, ccna, or ccnp.

Review: This is a good solid guide to TCP/IP, unlike many books which really only scratch the surface. By no means complete, but still very useful (and a good price)

Review: While some of the content is okay, I often felt the information was incomplete. The chapter on LDAP is literally incomprehensible. After trying to read the LDAP chapter I completely gave up on the book and will try to find something better.
